Southend-on-Sea Festival of the Air 2009
This weekend 24th & 25th May is the Southend Festival of the Air. I have connected my Commtel COM510 scanner to a spare PC and set up a room on the Australian EQSO server (202.89.177.238) called 'AIRSHOW'. This is a 'RX ONLY' room, with one-way audio. You will need the eqso PC client to listen in to the audio feed, please do not connect to this room if you are using a gateway/radio combo as rebroadcasting ATC is probably illegal! The frequencies covered are Southend ATC (Tower, radar & approach), Airshow Central, Red Arrows, Falcons Parachute Team, Black Cats Display team to name but a few. The most interesting audio is from the Red Arrows, if you have never heard how these guys (and one girl now, apparently!) communicate with each other during thier fantastic displays, this will be a eye-opener for you! Flying times for both days are available on http://www.southendairshow.com/ and are subject to change, all times are GMT +1. Hopefully the audio will be OK, it has taken me a fair bit of fiddling about to get some sort of decent audio out of the Commtel! The feed is running as a test at the moment (1330BST on Sat 23 May) picking up the normal Southend ATC traffic, although you may hear some of the aircraft being displayed tomorrow arriving over the course of the afternoon. Fingers crossed for fine weather, this year promises to be a good one, just a great shame our old favorite the Sea Harrier will not be making an appearance at any future airshows here in Southend.
