When coming to Humboldt county, it is easy to see that the timber corporations have had their way with the land. Patches of clear-cuts scatter the hill sides. Mills pump out formaldehyde and dioxins from every direction. Forests are being replaced with mono-specie and even-aged tree farms. A whole generation has been robbed of witnessing old-growth forests. What is left are scattered reminders of the giants that used to dominate this land. Timber corporations are destroying the less than 2% of old-growth that are left. These large and small patches of forest have been under attack since MAXAAM has decided that short-term profit is more important than forest health and animal life. With a shift of power soon happening from the Pacific Lumber bankruptcy, it is time to take action. It is time to broaden our scope to all timber corporations that are raping the land. It is time to take non-violent direct action to show that the current treatment of our forests is unacceptable. Love the World and Yourself -- Juniper Berry
