Midnight club LA is a game developed by Rockstar San Diego and published by Rockstar. Midnight Club LA is a game where it takes racing into the competition of Need for Speed Underground. The game is basically street racing with a hot rod car around the city of Los Angeles. The game is not perfect but it is defiantly worth a buy if your a street racing fan.
First Impressions: The game starts out with a no name character and a low end hot rod. The more you race, the more you can unlock cars, gain extras for your vehicle, earn money, and experience points. Once you pick the car the game starts with a race waiting for you down the street, which is pretty hard for someone who is just getitng use to the controls. As far as my impressions of the menu, it is very quick, seamless and does not take over the whole screen, which is a good thing. (8.5)
Sound: I am honered to say there is no love taken away from the PS3 version with the custom soundtracks, that's right, the PS3 and Xbox360 version both have custom soundtracks. Not to say the soundtracks are bad on Midnight club originally, they are actually really good for a drag racing game. Midnight club LA has lots of hit songs suitable for for most people. They have songs such as Hi Haters by Manio for the crunk listeners, Indestructible by Disturbed for the rock listeners, Like Dat by J-Mill for the underground listeners and Electric Feel by MGMT for techno listeners plus more. The Crashes sound decent but what really makes the game feel the way it does is the sound of the tires screeching and the engine revving up to give you that natural feel of power in your hot rod. Gameplay: The control scheme is different from any other racing game I've ever played. You hold the R3 stick up to gas and press it downward to reverse/stop. The game is a sandbox type of game you can drive anywhere in the city you want, and what is a sandbox driving game without a GPS? Of course Midnight Club LA has a GPS, and it works perfectly fine. To race you can press start and race anyone real story competitor or drive up to them and race them. Another great thing is that you can drive up to a street racer and press X and seamlessly start a race from there with no loading screen or anything which is really good. The biggest problem I have with this game is that the A.I gets too hard way too early in the game, I'd say after your 5th race you'd have to race perfectly with out one crash or else you have an automatic loss. Oh yea, and not to mention, with the Sony's 2.50 update there is In-Game Screen shots. Midnight Club LA does have online which supports up to 16 players online. You have several modes, to mention some there is Quick cruise where you can just jump into an online game, Standard Match which lets you race and roam the city with up to 16 people online with no lag. Midnight Club LA also has a feature called "Rate My Ride" where you can customize your car in the most ballin-est way possible and put it online for others to rate. (8.5)
Graphics: The graphics in Midnight club is beautiful, cartoon like and runs in full 1080p. The style of the graphics is sort of like GTA. The game also has minor frame rate drops and the screen tends to get blurry at times when your doing a 180 or a 360 turn, but thats nothing that will ruin the experience to a great amount.(8.2)
Replay Value: With the game being a street racing sandbox game with races you can seamlessly get into. This game defiantly has a high re-playability. Not only that but the online mode will have you playing for hours, Midnight Club LA Also has 46 Trophy's you can earn so that will keep you coming. (8.5)
Conclusion: All in all, Midnight Club LA is a great title for the racing fans out there. If you like street racing I'd defiantly recommend this title for you, and as the back of the cover says, "The best way to see Los Angeles is at 245 MPH"
