Dear fellow NSSLHA members and Advisors,
One of our promising students from the University Programs in Communication Disorders (UPCD) graduated in June 2008 and accepted a position as a speech-language pathologist in a rural ..:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" />Montana school district. In the few short weeks between graduation and employment, she was diagnosed with metastatic cancer. To make a difficult situation more difficult, her student insurance lapsed for those weeks when the cancer was discovered. The cancer has spread to organs, muscle and into the lumbar vertebrae. Currently, she is undergoing intensive treatment, both radiation and chemotherapy.
We are asking for your help. In appreciation for a $25 or greater donation, the UPCD faculty and students will send you a complete CD of Beginner Talker Books 2008. These books, authored by the UPCD graduate students and tested at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN, were featured at the 2008 WSHA Convention Motor Speech Disorders in Children presentation. The Beginner Talker book series features more than110 short reproducible repetitive word and phrase coloring books designed to facilitate first words, target individual phonemes, teach functional phrases, and assist in patterning appropriate stress and prosody for children with severe speech sound disorders including childhood apraxia of speech and dysarthria.
