The Ludus Magnus Gladiatorial Reeanactment Group's goal is to recreate, as near as possible, the spectacle of a gladitorial experience for spectators at the various "Living History - Time Line" events in which we participate.  The time period of the impression is circa 85 A.D. - fully 5 years after the most famous of all arenas was completed and dedicated. - The Flavian Amphiteater, later known as the Colosseum.

At these events, a training facility is set up with gladiators depicted as training in athletics and sparring with wooden swords. The gladiatorial combatants and support staff, while maintaining a period impression consistant with that of a 1st century era gladiator; will be availible to interact with the spectators and answer questions. A climax will come with several full-contact gladiatorial struggles.  Spectators are encouraged to join in as the "mob" cheers for there favorite combatant.  The victor will defer to a chosen Emporor or Empress and/or the pronouncement of the crowd as to life or death.

The goal of this Roman Era "impression" is to educate the public about the reality of gladiatoial combat, training, and lifestyle, as well as dispell many of the widely-held myths and misconceptions about this facinating aspect of antiquity.  The participants seek to honor the courage and devotion to duty that called men (and sometimes women) into mortal combat to entertain and please the masses.  They are expected to "stay in character" responding to the crowd as if time-travelers brought foward into the modern era.

ONLY THOSE WHO ARE SERIOUS and DEDICATED  are invited to join as combatants, trainers, referees, and annoucers.  In addition, barbarians, prisoners, scribes, and Roman citizens are welcomed impressions.  All you need to start is a tunic, a serious desire to reenact, and show up at one of our events.

Gladatorial recruits must be in good physical condition.  Endurance and overall good health and fitness is a MUST for this activity.  If you prefer not to participate directly in the combat scenarios, "Support Staff" as mentioned above is most welcome.  Those interested in participating in this exciting and seldom seen reenactment impression should contact Al Barbato at                     Tritonius68@optonline.net or (917) 578-5418.  You can also contact Patrick Barbato at Jetsfan2411@optonline.net .  Or if you prefer, you can send your information directly to our myspace page.  Simply copy and paste all information.
