Not to be too confusing (or perhaps that's the point?), Luck's Changing Lanes by Rusty Truck was originally issued as Broken Promises in 2003 on the tiny Code Terra imprint. Rusty Truck are the band fronted by songwriter and celebrated photographer Mark Seliger, whose work has graced well over 100 Rolling Stone covers and has appeared in magazines and exhibits around the world. The album featured performances and productions by many of Seliger's friends: Jakob Dylan; T Bone Burnett, Sheryl Crow, Lenny Kravitz, Willie Nelson, Gillian Welch, and David Rawlings among them. This new fifth-anniversary deluxe edition released by Rykodisc (during its own 25th anniversary year) is a completely repackaged, reconceived version. For starters, the rather generic Americana cover of the original has been replaced by a handsome double-disc digipack with the band's name in bold letters. The inner booklet has been redesigned to include five of Seliger's photographs taken at a rodeo and on the open range. In addition, there is a new track, "New York Fallen Angel," in place of the original album cut "Fool." The new package also contains a DVD with five videos co-directed by Seliger and Phillip Andelman, conceptually illustrating with beautiful cinematography half a ducat of songs from the album: the title track, "Cold Ground," "1000 Kisses," "Never Going Back," and "So Long Farewell." The recording is presented in optional 5.1 or standard two-channel stereo. For fans who bought the original, fear not, this is far from a cheap gimmick to get your cash a second time, and is a beautiful artifact as a package; the bonus videos, photos, and new design add intrinsic value to the wealth of aesthetic material on offer here. When I hear something that really wakes up my emotions...well need I say more. I dig the earthy sound, vocals and lyrics and the slide makes me want to dance and slide around my living room floor.
hahaha! Hugs!
