So............. What do you get when you put a full drum kit, a bass amp, a bass, a keyboard, cameras, other assorted bags, and 10 people (in winter coats), in 2 Jeeps? Answer: My set at the University of Delaware, opening up for Jazmine Sullivan! First I want to big up my whole band for sticking it out. We all got reeeal close on the ride down. I was in a jeep with the singers, and Miles was in the other Jeep with the rest of the musicians. (Fact: Miles got pulled over for speeding, but in true managerial fashion, was able to negotiate his way out of a ticket.) When we rolled up we were greeted by 2 tour buses. Jazmine's tour bus truly looked like a 4 story building turned on it's side.I could hear her warming up as we were loading in, and they were killing. I had a dressing room filled with the works (Thanks U of D). I knew things were gonna be good at sound check. I have never heard my music projected like that. We brought our own equipment, but used the same system as Jazmine. Big up to the sound guys for getting us right, in a really short amount of time. OK -- real talk -- I just got back from Atlanta, so we only had one short rehearsal the night before. I was a little nervous about that, but the band was RIGHT!!! Everybody was hittin' and made my job easy (footage on youtube shortly). We did a five song set. Composure, Saturday, You, My Door, and Gone. The crowd was great. I have to say, sometimes I perform to ice grills, folded arms and people who are looking at me like "entertain me" --- not so here. From the first song (Composure) I could see and better yet FEEL the crowd was into it. I left the stage feeling really good about the show, and anyone who knows me, knows that is no easy feat. I joked about us needing gas money (kinda joking) and we sold around 50 CD's. I signed quite a few of them and got to connect with people who really enjoyed the show. All of this made for an easier ride home. The singers were in my whip. Darius had a birthday on the way home(sorry you spent it cramped up). I dropped off some folk and then relaxed for about an hour before my 5am shift at work (Yes -- work). I am still getting hits on myspace and emails from the show. Thanks for the love. Check out my pics for scenes from the show. Big thanks to the band Singers Keisha Gumbs, Darius Booker, Tyzelle Keyboard/MD Robert Stephens III Drums Robert Sayles Bass Nate Jones on bass Maryse for driving and taking still shots and video -- simultaneously --- (still amazed at that) Veronica for WORKING the CD sales table and recording the audio from the show
Also special thanks to: Patricia Timothee Sasha Fray Kasandra Moye
