I've got a personal opinion to put forward.

I think, honestly, dancing is more dangerous than moshing. Like, a general rule of a mosh at a show, is when someone falls down, you stop what you're doing to help them up. It's never about hurting people, it's about having a good time.

Now hardcore dancing, when people are swinging their limbs around, they can easily break bones. And most dancers don't even care, if they hit someone they keep on going.

I've been in quite a few moshes. I'm 5'4 and weigh like 100 pounds.

I've never been hurt except for a few bruises. What I don't think the management understands is it doesn't happen out of aggression, it happens because it's what the music makes you want to do. It's so much fun.

It's one of the main reasons that I come to shows. Right after amazing music.

I'll still come to the shows. But I won't have as much fun.

Thanks.

Thanks for the comment Derek! I totally understand where you are coming from on this, and I don't think I have ever witnessed anyone in a mosh pit intentionally trying to hurt someone. The problem we run into here is once again - we are a very small venue with shows that bring people who just want to stand up close and watch the band. If you remember the last show we had, a small group (you may have been in it) started to mosh in the crowd near the stage and people were getting hit that didn't want to be involved. I received several complaints after the show and I reminded them that we had stopped the moshing shortly after it started. I'm just trying to appease those who come to the shows as well as those who are above me. I hope everyone can understand. I have been talking to operators of other similar venues, some who don't allow dancing at all. I'm also painfully aware of venues not far from here that have been totally shut down because of injuries from these type of issues. I'm trying to keep Park Place from being one of the next ones on the list.

These rules are great. hopefully things will stay calm. Although, I sorta suggest someone pays more attention to all of the underage people there that do stand outside and smoke.

I would like to thank everyone who came to the Gwen Stacy show last night, and particularly the dancers who were able to contain their dancing to a small but mostly contained area. I thought that , with only a few minor exceptions, most everyone tried show due respect to others at the show. I was approached by one of the dancers and thanked for trying to reach a "middle ground" by allowing limited and more controlled dancing. The posting of the above rules and the subsequent enforcement is merely an attempt to keep this local venue open and enjoyable by all who choose to come here. Again - thank you to everyone who helped to make things work last night and may God bless all of you.

we would be interested in playing at your establishment at some point...but we do have one concern....we can follow the rule of not swearing(since the show we just did had the same rule) but we have a couple songs that there is a total of 3 swear words(those are songs we have at the moment, not necessarily what songs we'll have in the future)...we are wondering if this would be a problem....they arent noticable since we're a metal band and the words are screamed...but they are there and we dont want too many surprises for possible venues

Just a note to advise that the above rules are still expected to be observed by patrons of shows at Park Place. Last Friday's show featuring "Though She Wrote" provided exceptional talent and great music from all bands involved. Unfortunately, the above rules prohibiting moshing and crowd-surfing were violated several times. You must understand that activity such as this with a large crowd in such a small venue is difficult to stop while excitement is high.

Attempts at spot-enforcement at these times only anger some of the less considerate patrons who could care less whether our shows continue or not. And this anger stands a chance of some innocent person(s) getting hurt. I think you can understand how this could destroy the enjoyment of an otherwise good show experience.

Last Friday, I became aware of three incidents that concerned me. One involved a young man who, while dancing and swinging his arms, struck another dancer in the face. I was unable to find out who the dancer was that got hit in the face, but the young man sat out the rest of the show with an ice pack on his hand.

A second incident involved a young girl who is a member of Park Place. She was in front of the crowd at the stage where most people locate to get a close view of the bands. Moshing began which she was not a part of and she was pushed over one of the monitor speakers causing her to stove her finger.

The third and most frightening incident involved a young boy who is also a member of Park Place who was picked up several times and "crowd-surfed" to the back of the crowd and then dropped. He lated told me that when he was dropped to the floor, he luckily landed on his feet. What scared me was - what if he had landed on his head???

I enjoy producing these shows and I'm right there with everyone else in my enjoyment of the music, but I'm NOT about people getting hurt. I also enjoy being able to provide a venue locally where young people can go and enjoy these kind of shows. But I am not going to put up with people being immature and inconsiderate of others to the point of creating danger to any of our patrons. As I have said many times before, I am not obligated in any way to produce shows like this to keep the doors of Park Place open. We do very well financially without the shows and are presently enjoying the highest membership numbers in our soon to be ten-year existence. In fact, with all the expenses of a show, we are fortunate to break even with a production such as this.

Bottom line - you may have noticed that there is only one more show listed on our site. This will be a final test case and I will be making an announcement prior to the beginning of the show and possibly at a point sometime into the show for those who show up later.  If people who attend our shows are unable to follow a few simple but meaningful rules of the venue, then this unfortunately will be our final show.

Thanks to anyone who has taken the time to read this.

Sam
