The Film Festival Parties
When the TIGLFF comes to town with its Annual Gay & Lesbian Film Festival it's always a wild, fun time! This year was no exception. Great movies with film director and actors present everyday drew much larger crowds than last year attendance. The Gala Opening, Sugar & Surge Party  events were very creative, impressive and fun. Congratulations Friends of the Arts Board and Staff and Executive Director Chuck Henson for a well put together program and for putting on a memorable event.

The Sugar Party at the Honey Pot
On Saturday Night it was the "Sugar Party" for the ladies. A lot of the guys, us included, couldn't resist this party! From the time you walked up to the Honey Pot Club all the windows were painted with lollipops & set designs! On the first floor there was huge oversized candy pieces floating above with gears resembling a candy factory turning everywhere. On the stage was an actual candy store. The windows were filled with cakes, sugar candy & imagination. In the VIP lounge on the mezzanine was a 3 tier display of candy jars. Everyone was filled with a different candy! We had to try some. Up to the 3rd floor it was just plain breath taking! White globes floating in the air over a 50 ft desert table!  OMG.... the chocolate somores desert pizzas from New York, New York Pizza were to died for!!!! And what can you say about the 40 varieties of cheesecake from the Cheese Cake Factory. We supplied the fresh key limes from our tree in our backyard for Darlene from Streetcar Charlie's  for key lime tarts. White trees filled with crystals, white drapes, white chandeliers & more. One of the VIP rooms was transformed into a very romantic white fairy world. DJ Jeffery & DJ Pat Pat were spinning & special guest appearances by Kim Magic, Glow Stick Gingerbreads Cookies & the Bikini Team!!!  We can't wait to see what happens next year! Super job art set directors Mathieu and Toby!

The SURGE  "House of House" Party at Czars
On the same night as the Sugar Party was "The SURGE " House of House Party" at Czar's for the guys. All three main event rooms were open & packed with hot Guys! There were three very different DJs. In the Vodka Lounge was DJ Michael Terrance. In the Show bar was DJ Dino Bonetti. Spinning in the Imperial Theatre was DJ Seth Cooper. Also in the Imperial Room was a photo booth & giant blow up slide. It looked like everybody was having a good time!

Including Spurs, Steam Friday's, G.BAR. Chelsea Night Club, City Side & many more.  This year the All Hallows Ball is at the Tampa Convention Center. Many of the party goers are planning on taking the trolley to Ybor after. Others are staying at the Hampton Inn Ybor then taking the trolley to & from the party.

The Judy B Goode Benefit
Monday night at Streetcar Charlie's was a benefit for Judy B. Goode.  A couple of weeks ago Judy took a nasty fall and broke both her wrists. Then last week her 16 year old poodle, Chloe passed away. We told her that she should write a country song about it all. Unable to work herday time job but she still can sing. At the packed benefit everybody played 50/50, raffeled off door prizes and had 8 guest performers. Judy will be at Pepperz in Gulf Port this Friday and every Monday at Streetcar Charlie's in GaYBOR.

Below is a Thank You Note from Judy
Mark and Carrie....I just wanted to send you this letter to thank you from the bottom of my heart for putting the benefit together for me this past Monday. Between breaking my wrists and my  dog Chloe dying  I felt like my heart had been ripped out of me but thanks to you and Mike Hammond and Streetcar Charlies and Richard and Jessica and Danny and Jb and  all my wonderful friends who are too many to mention....I felt like someone put a giant band aid on my heart to heal it. ALL of you who were there last night gave me sooo much love ..I felt like i was standing in the middle of a giant hug. Thanks for helping me through such a bad time. Thanks to all of you i can pay some of my bills  and survive another month. I don't know how to say thank you enough except to say each one of you are my angels. I love you and will never forget that you all were there for me. I LOVE YOU ALL AND GOD BLESS YOU!!!  Judy B. Goode

BACK TO THE SIXTIES FOR THE STAGEWORKS GALA

Stageworks Theatre’s fourth annual Masquerade Ball will take place on Saturday, January 9, 2010 at Centro Asturiano. This year the theme is “Tie Dye Black Tie!”, a sixties evening.

The proceeds from this year’s gala will go to the building fund for Stageworks’ new theatre in the Channel District. The build out of the donated space at Grand Central at Kennedy condo is expected to begin by the end of 2009, with a Fall 2010 opening.

This radical chic evening will be a creative mix of peace signs and glitz in a magical mystery tour of delicious food, drinks, entertainment and lots of dancing. M.C.’s for the evening are Brendan McLaughlin and Deiah Riley of ABC Action News.

Gala Chair Andrea Graham says, “Bob Dylan’s quote from the sixties is very relevant for our event. He said “The times they are a-changin’…” which mirrors the role we are playing in helping to bring change to Tampa’s Channel District!”

Tables of 10 are available at the $1,250, $2,500 and $5,000 level. Individual tickets are $125 per person.

Graham also says that the proceeds from the gala will put the theatre over the top in the building fund campaign so that construction can begin.  “ To use the words from The Beatles: ‘we’ll get by with a little help from our friends.’ ”

About Stageworks Theatre:

Stageworks Theatre is the oldest professional theatre company in Tampa (25 years), and currently performs at the Shimberg Playhouse at Tampa Bay Performing Arts Center. Thanks to the generous donation of 8,000 square feet of space in Grand Central at Kennedy in te Channel District, Stageworks is raising $1 million to build out this donated space for its first permanent home.

Stageworks Theatre has an extensive Outreach Program for children at risk in which we use theatre to teach anger management, anti-bullying, tolerance, self empowerment, pride in heritage, AIDS prevention and energy conservation. The new theater will serve as the headquarters for all of our programming and enable us to expand and meet the needs of our community.

Stageworks is playing a pivotal role in the economic development of one of Tampa’s newest neighborhoods: the Channel District.

Recent honors include:

* Chosen by Tampa Bay Business Journal as the 2009 Arts & Culture Non Profit of The Year
