This is my last Blog entry on MySpace, but I hope you will continue reading, because I saved big news for this last post and - at the end - I confess a lie.

I just signed the contract for the 5th PostSecret book that will be released later this year - PostSecret Confessions on Life, Death and God.  I am very excited about this book because we created a special website where you can mail in your postcards for possible publication in the new book.  You can also watch a personal video from me.

Because this is my last message on MySpace, I included extra secrets as a way to say Thanks to all of you who have been reading my posts here every week since I began in July 2008.

I also appreciate those of you who have just discovered these "behind the scenes" messages about PostSecret.  Feel free to go back in time and see all the earlier posts.  I am really proud of the interviews, postcards and surprises I was able to share with you here over the past months.

And be sure to check out the PostSecret Community - with over 60,000 members - it's where the conversation about secrets continues every week.  Here's how some current members describe it:

PSC is like my unofficial home. It's where I live and breath to be myself.
 
You can tell your secrets, get them off your chest, and then make friends with people who know your secrets and love you anyway. That's a pretty powerful thing.
 
I know that I have a place to come to where I can vent, grieve, play and release, and even though some of my anonymity is gone after being here awhile, I feel comfortable in sharing myself with the people that I have met here.

Finally, here is the lie.  Even though I said Goodbye to MySpace, I will occasionally come back to this Blog and make more posts and share more secrets.  I am not sure when or how often I will return, but this week many of you suggested that I not stop completely so I will keep the door open.

I too agree that posting numbers isn't the safest thing, but if I wouldn't have posted my number, I wouldn't have saved someone's life or met the most amazing person who was my best friend for 8 months and now my fiance :)

I honestly don't think that people have the right to throw hissy fits... Its the outlet that people chose to throw themselves into, and I know that even though you wouldn't understand, people can be soothed if they know that there is one single person that they are connecting to... Maybe they desire that connection more than the obsessive anonymity... I dont know, but it's just a thought :]

We know it's dangerous, but some people just need that. Who are you to say it's not "true" postsecret and judge them for it? Postsecret has it's own life now, stop trying to stick your ideals on it. Just let it be what the community who keeps it alive needs for the moment.


Not sure if any of this makes sense but oh well! Its just rambling.

No matter what happens, what you started is, simply put, an amazing thing.


Certainly, as it has been pointed out, some of the people who mail in secrets probably need professional help. Some of them are probably just making cries for attention. But it still remains that this project has been quite possibly one of the most effective ways to connect with people. Even if you never send a secret in or share a story, you've probably read a secret that relates to you in a way that some things never have.



And to the one who has chosen to stop viewing PostSecret because of their belief that they have outgrown it, that they are annoyed by the exchanging of telephone numbers, they they feel that the project has become, for lack of better phrasing, too popular to be good anymore -- I hope you find your desired simplicity in life, and wish you the best on your journey to it! I think you've made some good points, but at the same time, everything is what you make of it. In some ways, I'm a bit sorry you've chosen to see things with this project in the way you apparently do now.
But, I'm not you, so what does it matter?



Alas, for the last time I am doing this. I have made friends through this project, and I don't regret it. 9037019722. Unlimited texts. I'll respond unless you ask otherwise. If you want to have a random conversation, I'm down for that.

I have not felt this necessary in the past, however I am posting this disclaimer now: I may have unlimited texting, but please do not blow up my phone. If you have something to say, send it in one message (or a series of full messages), not 30 messages that are six to eight words apiece.

But without leaving my phone number in the past, I wouldn't have helped someone who needed to call social serives, to save a child..

and I wouldn't have helped save a life.

Dear frank.



This blog also marks the end of my relationship with post secret. for a few years now ive looked at post secret every sunday. ive lived and died with some of the postcards. ive laughed really hard, ive been shocked and worried. ive had some good times sharing post secrets with others too.



but as i look down the comments below (and those of the past few months) and the stuff on the community, i feel that i have outgrown post secrets. people exchanging phone numbers and all that really annoys me, but thats not the main thing. in this world of global communication and super fast everything, i think alot of things like post secret, have lost their simplicity. when i first started reading post secret i felt as if...i could read what was there and think about it in my own way and also reflect on my own "secrets". in other words, it was a very personal thing. it wasnt too blown out of proportion. but now all these kids...all crying out for attention, makes me really sad and makes me think that post secret is no longer a place to go and reflect, its a place where people go to yell "LOOK AT ME! IM DIFFERENT! IM IN PAIN! PAY ATTENTION TO ME!" and im not ok with that. and if im going to be completely honest, i dont think its just post secret. people everywhere are just crying out for attention and doing crazy things in order to fill that gap in their.....soul i suppose.



im way off my main point. ill reign it in a bit.



the fact is, FRANK, alot of the people who send you secrets maybe need proffesional medical help. PLEASE remind them that its an option they should go for. and of course the suicide line that you talk about so much is great as long as thier talking to a trained professional.



sending strangers your phone number is not the way to start a lasting honest relationship. all their problems wont be solved by sending someone a text with a secret on it. another question i always think about is, do these people really have secrets? or do they just want to.



to end ill say this.



ill never look at post secrets again. ill never wonder what peoples secrets are, because as far as im concerned, their none of my business.



ive never posted a secret. because ive always believed a secret is something that noone else in the world knows.



i have two. i will hold them close to chest. i will carry them every day. and i will NEVER put them in the mail.....they're mine..

to me, it's kind of a way to connect.



I met my friend, Priscilla, because we were texting secrets to each other.



Because I met her, I had the strength to leave someone very important to me behind.



He was breaking me, little by little.



I couldn't have done it without her, && you have no idea how thankful I am.






I think that sharing a secret first, is a great way to begin a friendship.



I can't really share many secrets with my friends, even the ones i've known for years.



but I feel very comfortable sharing things with people I met by texting secrets.

Your response is an incredible example of why i have been let down by post secret lately. As he said, postsecret has lost its simplicity. I dont feel that anyone should bicker or argue another persons posts or comments, or state that their comment was "pointless". I have also been reading post secret for 3 years now and its always been where i come to feel welcomed and comfortable not ridiculed and judged. If everyone would just stop and think about the fact that somewhere deep down we all have a skeleton, i think things would be a lot more peaceful. The whole world not just postsecret.
Lets bring back the amazing thing that postsecret was pre-myspace!

It really bugs me when people use postsecret to fight and argue over .. well, anything.

PostSecret was created to help people share secrets and know that they're not alone - that someone out there is just like them.


Trading secrets through text messages.. spamming Frank's blog with your phone number.. that's not what it was meant for.


And it's the people that are ruining postsecret for me.

The one thing I have that makes me feel.. not so insane.. is being ruined.


The arguing needs to stop.

I agree. Although at first the phone numbers didn't bother me (even though it is very dangerous to leave a number on a blog so many people see). It was when people started writing "secret for secret" that I got pissed. This has ruined everything PostSecret was able to give me. A secret shouldn't be something so easily traded over a text message.
