[The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time]
Tonight, Ive recognized a truth about beating it in one setting. First of all, this was on the 64, so yeah...I believe in Z-targeting, not L-targeting, for one. Note that I was NOT unexperienced on the outcome of this issue, but wanted a strong and supportive answer to why this occured. I will state the problem, then list the possible solutions. Once again, I post this to those who claim that defeating every boss is unnessesary and a waste of time. Although, there is proof that you CAN win the game without defeating each boss, I would like to mention certain aspects also listed below.
PROBLEM: how to beat LOZ:OoT without the rescue/defeat of EVERY temple.
Ok, as we all know, you begin the game young and all that. Defeat each boss to level up to Link's grown stage. This will lead you to Hyrule Field and you see the cutscene here; Ganondorf attempts to kidnap Princess Zelda. One thing leads to another, and you are all grown up (YAY). ***NOTE: I will use the name "nocturne" in place of Link because I named the file as such. This will also jog my memory :D*** Continuing, you should receive the Light Medallion from Rauru. Now then, if you're more determined to BEATING the game than you are collecting the gold skulltulas and learning Epona's song and such, then you should be in the same position.
#1. HOOKSHOT
First of all, exit the Temple of Time. Go to Kakariko Graveyard, and go to Dampe's grave. Race with him, get the HOOKSHOT. This is needed because, if you want to progress throughtout the game, you have to have this, nonetheless enter the Forest and Shadow temples.
#2. FAIRY BOW
You're going to need this to shoot practically anything down, across, or to activate any switches. Needless to say, you cant beat the Forest temple without it. 'Nuf said.
A. FOREST TEMPLE
-You must beat the forest temple to advance to anything else
#3. MEGATON HAMMER
to activate rusted switches in the Spirit Temple and in Ganons Castle, you need this badly
B. FIRE TEMPLE
-You DO NOT need to complete this temple. Instead get the hammer, and be on your way.
#4. LONGSHOT
Defeat Dark Link and all that jazz. Upgrade and continue. You have to have this for the Spirit Temple, especially if you dont have your horse; that bridge is just big enough for you NOT to cross with the hookshot alone. save yourself the trouble, I tried already. Also, the cuckoo that's there when you're younger is not present any longer. So dont think about jumping across, even with Hover Boots, youll fall short.
#5. IRON BOOTS
Need these to get to the Water Temple. Dont bother arguing. Just get them...
#6. FIRE ARROW
Need this to catch things ablaze in the Shadow, Spirit and Ganon's Castle. Cant really progress without it
#7. DINS FIRE
Believe it or not, you have to have this; recall the moment where you see Ruto again and she talks crap bout "loving" you and all. On that floor of the room, there is a torch. Remember, you cant use Deku Sticks, fool. So how else will you light it to get your key?...thought so....
C. WATER TEMPLE
-You must beat the Water Temple to activate the cutscene for the Shadow Temple. Ive heard this works and doesnt depending on what version of the game you have. Its odd, but usually this works great for me. Just beat Morpha; he's not that bad, promise.
#8. HOVER BOOTS
Unfortunately, you need these to move across the gap in the beginning of the Shadow Temple. I know, waste of time, but it only makes it easier to get across the River of Sand in Desert Colossus and to retrieve the Golden Gauntlets(optional) in Ganon's Castle.
#9. LENS OF TRUTH
Obviously, you need this because to activate the Shadow Temple, you must go under the well. DUUUR, I know, but some tend to think otherwise
D. SHADOW TEMPLE
-You must beat this to advance to the Spirit Temple. Because you're so close to the end, it would be wise to do so. I believe it also unlocks the cutscene for the Spirit Temple.
#10. MIRROR SHIELD
Really, need I say more? Not only is it the most stylish shield, its the only one to beat Twinrova
#11. SILVER GAUNTLETS
Its a must...get it whether you like it or not. If you dont like it, then why play?
E. SPIRIT TEMPLE
-You have to beat it to get to Ganon's Castle.
So far, when Nocturne is older, I believe these will do just fine. Provided if you received Deku Nuts and bombs, you should be ok. Upgrades of any arent necessary. Really, you need just the Fire Arrows; Light Arrows come from Sheik...I mean Zelda. Farore's Wind and Nayru's Love arent needed either, unless you're no that good a fighter. You dont have to upgrade the Magic Meter. You only need one bottle. And if youre stocked up with at least EIGHT hearts, you CAN beat the game with ease. HOWEVER, if you like using Light Arrows to kick Ganon's ass, then upgrade the meter. Also, if you like to smash, then get the hammer still. Deku Nuts still affect somewhat, but arent the greatest.
