As many of you know, I have been "in the studio" a lot lately. I am assembling 3 CDs of music for your listening pleasure... two pop-jazz albums of covers and one "emotronic pop-soul" album of original material. Coordinating all this is a full-time job-- it involves many musicians, arranging songs, singing the songs, having back-up singers sing, etc. At this point in time, I am waiting on Dusty Knapp in Nashville to send me "consolidated" tracks for the When I Fall In Love album so I can re-mix it so it sounds better AND change my vocals and add some back-up harmonies and instruments on there... Then, for At Last, Jim and Lou came into the studio and did their instrumentation and I just spent several hours singing and then picking the best of my vocals for most of those songs and now I am awaiting my friend Dave to add trumpet to Mack The Knife and my friend Brittany to sing with me on some of them and others who will add their voices and instruments to those tunes. And for my original stuff, that's about 1/8 done so far with Wandering, Streets of Gold, 3407 and Gone & Done progressing, and then about 5 or 6 of the tunes are on Danny/Nate's computer at Salter's in Buffalo so I have to see if those old files can be translated from that computer program to Joe S.'s so I can add vocals and such, and then Joe S. and I still have a couple of my originals to start and of course finish. My plan? To have songs done in the next few months such that I will share my rough versions with musicians and singers who will then add their "flava" to the tracks in the studio so these songs sound the best as I can afford time and money-wise. I would like for Mary Mary and Ashley Cleveland to add their vocals to a track or two. Then I have to figure out how to properly pay royalties for using copywritten songs (Harry Fox Agency) and I have to do photo shoots and pick album art and have CDs pressed and packaged to sell and post tracks on itunes and amazon and others...so as you can read, there's a lot to what I do as a do-it-yourself entertainer. So many of you criticize me saying "you don't work," "must be nice getting up at 10am," and "well that's just a hobby."
