Current mood: geeky
Hey folks, been a while...
...so first off, an apology, for that exact reason. We were planning to make this monthly, but a) i'm disorganised and b) i'm lazy. And I realised that if we described every single gig as some kind of epic adventure (even though some of them really were!) then it would kind of make the process of blogging a little overblown on our part. We really wouldn't expect anyone, no matter how sad they were, to have time for that! So we're going to just summarise the first few months of the year so far!
Gig wise, it's simple...we've had some good ones and some not so good ones. And some that fell sort of in between. I'll just mention the highlights to speed things up!
2 that spring to mind were the result of the Heavylight Darkbright/ Pinup Nights alliance requesting our services for the evening. The first one (HLDB) was on the 6th of march at stereo, playing with three pretty amazing acts: the bouncy electropop of Futuristic Retro Champions, the scathing italo disco of Tokyo Knife Attack, and to round it all off a fine DJ set from 2 members of Findo Gask (a shame they weren't playing live, as we truly think they're producing some of the best music coming out of glasgow at this moment). The second one was at the Captain's Rest on the 17th of april. Co-curated by pinups/HLDB, 'Hot in The City' featured Alkotron (a sort of Door's-esque outfit, crossed with some of led zeppelin's funkier moments) and Edinburgh's RBRBR (highly danceable yet slightly insane electro funk, complete with a wildly perplexing stage presence!). All in all, they both put on a sound performance and we'd highly recommend them!
So a big cheers to all involved with both those nights: James, John D. and Niall (Tattie!); should also mention both of those gigs had excellent performances from the sound engineers, some of the best we've had yet! And of course everyone who made it down to those nights...we truly appreciate your support!
We also played a charity gig (at short notice) on 13th of march at the flying duck, the name of the organization I forget (sorry!), but the cause was to raise money for an orphanage in Malawi. And everyone was wearing pyjamas! That's cause it was a pyjama party (mystery solved). Again the lineup was of high quality, featuring the Arcade Fire-y and very glaswegian indie folk of Brother Louis Collective and The Seventeenth Century, and the storytelling indie pop of Vendor Defender, whom with we seem to have formed a kind of bond with recently! (incidentally, we're playing with them at Macsorley's on the 7th of May, see below). A good night had by all...
We should also mention we're now under official management by Stephen Mckee (of Flowers in the Dustbin fame), who we must say (along with Flowers' second in command Harris Hill) is putting a tireless effort into the interests of the band, with some pretty decent gigs lined up for us over the coming months...
...which leads us nicely to 'What Next For The Base?' Well, there's the aforementioned gig on the 7th at MacSorley's with Vendor Defender, also we're headlining Are Flowers Electric? at the 13th Note on 6th of June with Dirty Cuts, Ex-Men and a DJ set from iamchemist - these are not just great acts, they're also, from what I've heard, bloody hilarous (in a good way!). Also it's very likely there'll be a King Tuts gig at some point. And there's some strong rumours that we'll be 'going underground' sometime towards the end of may...more on that soon!
Oh, and there's 2 new tunes up, Electric Touch and Pronoid. We've been performing them live for sometime now and gotten a pretty good response from them, so we thought we'd get them recorded and put up on the playlist (apologies if you're listening with a subwoofer and thinking woah! bass! I had no access to a subwoofer during mixing and i've been informed it's a little sub-bass heavy!). And pretty soon there'll be 2 more...and maybe even more after that...
Peace y'all,
Nevada Base
