(I will not respond to comments made about this statement, nor do I plan on speaking further about it.  But feel free to cut and paste this statement anywhere you please.)

If it weren’t for the fact that I actually enjoy conversing with the fans of my prior bands, I would never have found out about a new band called Screeching Weasel beginning to tour.  “This can’t be the band I was in.” I say to myself.  “I would have been preparing.”  My mind would much prefer going to a place of calm contemplation than into a dark cold room filled with anger and the emotions associated with betrayal.  So to avoid painful emoting I first took the facts that Ben and I started a band together called Screeching Weasel, we both spent all our days making that band a home for ourselves, and 18 years later we put it to rest.  This along with the statement made by both me and Ben on many occasions that the band wouldn’t be Screeching Weasel without either of us, makes me assume that this band playing isn’t Screeching Weasel, because I don’t recall having kicked myself out of the band.  So it seems logical that this is not Screeching Weasel.  If it were I would have to admit that I longer have friends named Ben Foster or Dan Schafer.  As for people like Ben Weasel, Dan Vapid, or even John Jughead, I have nothing to say, because they never really existed, they were just made up names for a bunch of friends that tried to do something different in order to survive and make a living in this world.  And I imagine they are all still trying to make a living somehow, seeing that their band’s prominent “leader” never wanted to tour in order to make it financially viable to continue on.

Bravo, man, bravo. Farmer Ben lost all his creative talent 10 years ago, this won't last long. Sad to see one of my favorite bands go down this way.

Totally blows. Cannot believe this b.s. nor do I know how to properly respond except to say my support is still with you as it always has been, my friend. You have proven yourself an amazing talent in so many realms.

Dude this shit is fucked up.

You guys were a great band, but I guess Ben wants to be a cunt.

He could just as easily have the same new lineup with a different band name.

I mean shit that is what blink did during their split up.

O well dude, I am sure this shit will pass.

John,

We've met on a handful of occasions at Too Much Light Makes the Baby Go Blind and as a teenager in the early 90's talking to you at Screeching Weasel shows. I've always felt you were the soul of that band and it's bullshit that this is going on without you.

Screeching Weasel was quite literally a life changing band for me. The first time I saw Weasel was at McGregor's with the Queers and the Vindictives and to this day it's one of my all time favorite shows. I know you probably hear it all the time, but the music you made in that band made a huge impact on me as well as countless other kids who sit between the ages of 25 and 35.

Your band, the one that you helped create and sustain is the fundimental reason I've spent over half my life chasing that feeling of hearing something new and exciting. Your band was the door way for me to stop being a dopey kid who only listened to Agnostic Front and Black Flag to being someone genuinely loves music.

For that, I say thank you. But most of all, I want to thank you for being approachable and down to earth about your dealings with your fans. I feel like this made a positive impact on me as well as many of my peers.

Thanks again,

Chris

Jughead - you seemed very approachable at The House Of Blues in Chicago in 2000. I feel that you have an appreciation for the fans of the music. Check out my blog entry about the feelings I have toward Screeching Weasel's latest transpiration. I could not have written this 10 years ago, as I was not old enough to fully understand the need to find a means of an end for financial worries. I don't expect you to agree with any of it. I also don't expect to sound like I understand everything that has gone on. I just feel like you've lost a friend in much the same way I did with the person who introduced me to Screeching Weasel, and it forced me to get vocal about it - if for nothing else, to release some of the feelings I've felt about someone similar to Ben.
