Rays of an Ancient Sun

If beauty shed from all the flowers / And rivers flowed like running showers
Why did we turn our world of placid pastures / To a concrete rancid disaster.
Where is all our dignity? / Our remorse, our sympathy?
Do we not see natural beauty? / Must we pursue in all our hubris?

Where have all our babies gone? / To a field forever gone?
Has our anger forced a war / To reopen all our sores?

When will all this sorrow end? / And our sweet children laugh again?
Can we take this anymore? / Or is it the fate of our world to mourn?
Too many tears will drown us out / We will sink in the fearsome drought.
Without a single life preserver / cause we killed all of our saviors.

The Muslims were too threatening / We had to kill 'em THEY COMMITTED SINS
Oh, the Blacks? yeah their all goners / We had no use for them any longer
What about all of the Jews / They were annoying us, we killed them too.
Then just for fun we killed all the children / We don't do well with competition.

"How in the world did you get the people to follow?"
The same way we always have, we simply told them they were under attack...

And now the fears, the fears run high / We chant, "Attack" up to the sky
War endless war, pain endless pain / Lost forever, all our friends.

Torched into oblivion / Scorched with the fires of menaces.
I wish we could have saved ourselves / It seems we were too consumed with our self

We lost our spirits, we lost our minds / And now it's over we slaughtered the divine
I remember when we were young / And all the fields gleamed like the sun

When all the little boys and girls / Would run around like sweet angels
But now we can't see any more / our eyes consumed by all these wars
Only had we said something / and threw our weapons from the fringe
We could have still watched all our children / laughing, playing, smiling, singing

But we chose the dreadful path / And so we mourn for our world lost
Oh how I wish we would have saved it / This earth of ours and all it's maidens
But I guess it's just a dream / our world just turned into a thing
The leaders played with like a toy /And sent away our precious boys

And we just listened.  Why did we listen? / We should have spoke out against their killings.
But we were blinded by their televisions /And convinced by their education.
They made us focus on other things / Such as books without any meaning
I guess the teachers were blinded too / Or just scared like me and you

While children were dying in far off lands / We were taught to fling rubber bands
Why didn't we take a stand? / Did all that busy work help our land

 "It's mine!" "No mine!" "I don't like you " / I guess I'll throw a bomb or two
If I was there I'd have done something / that's what they said when learning history
But when in their time the bombs were flying / They were busy with other findings
Like shopping and pursuing riches / While soldiers died within the ditches

We just spent our precious time / buying clothes and drinking wine
It doesn't matter now, all that is nonsense / We just slept through all that madness...

Now all of that is nevermore / Our world is gone and we all mourn
We probably shouldn't have backed their wars / I guess the roses pricked the thorns
And now our babies, they're all gone / Lost like rays of an ancient sun...
