dudes, our first SCATHING REVIEW!! oh man, we think it's also our favorite review. the "sloppy bluegrass version of Sex In The City" is definitely hitting the press kit...


WOODPECKER -- F-Hole
This CD features some of the most sensationally elaborate packaging I have ever seen, and it's a pity that peek-a-boo holes through to the CD disc-face art, and exacto-cut and mounted photos of band members wearing animal suits does not a great album make. If it were, I'd have no hesitation in awarding 10-out-of-10 to Woodpecker.

As it is, their "indie-meets-bluegrass post-folk" kinda thing; their lyrics which "flirt with sentimentality before kneeing it in the balls"; their "sophisticated hooks that betray a penchant for indie-pop"; their name-checking of Eminem and Leonard Cohen, and pretentious, demeaning, smug, more-pomo-than-thou references to penis-size and anal sex just leave me cold. It's like a sloppy bluegrass version of Sex In The City.

Or put it this way:

Maybe her ex-boyfriend is lying in bed between us /
And I'm not feeling that bi-curious

Yeah, thought so.
