Current mood:  worried

On September 11, 2001 I was an active member on the NYPD. I was the precinct election officer responsible for assignment of all officers as well as ensuring the transmission of the vote numbers whenever there was a primary or election. It has been 7 years since that horrible day and I still see many of the horrific images in my head. Once we realized that the attack was indeed an attack we all gasped in horror in the precinct. I was watching the TV with Lt Gary Healy who had become a good friend of mine and we just stared at each other in amazement. We had to send 1 sgt and 8 officers to the towers to help with search and reacue. We later learned that our 9 guys were in the towers when the 1st tower fell. HOLY SHIT!!!! These were my friends and colleagues and now, we thought they were dead. I had been to a bunch of police funerals in the course of my almost 19 years of service at that point but to think about what we were facing that day was staggering. The NYPD lost 23 members that day and FDNY lost 343 and I went to way too many funerals in the days following that day. To this day as 9/11 approaches I break down and cry remembering those that paid the ultimate price and the fact that so many forget the emotions of the events that day and consider voting for Barack Obama who will back off the fight and allow terrorist activity to blossom just like Bill "I never had sex with that woman" Clinton did during his 8 years in office. God Help Us All!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Oh Brendan, I must say that as sad as I am for this countries loss, I too cannot imagine what or how you must feel. To work so closely with the individuals that gave their lives in that attack is simply something I could never know about. My heart sinks everytime I think about that day and the events playing over and over again in my head. We are coming upon yet another anniversary of that horrible day and to me as sad as it is that we lost so many wonderful people that day I can't help but be so proud to be in a country were so many heros have died to protect that which is so sacred to many of us as we enjoy our freedom. I want you to know that every year on the anniversary of 9/11 I set aside a time when I can just pray for those that are still over seas protecting our freedom and I ask God to be with them and protect them and to comfort those that have lost loved ones on that horrible day, I want you to know that you will be a special part of that prayer. God be with you and all who have suffered the loss of loved ones.

since i watched the events of 9/11 from 3000 miles away, i can't really claim to understand the depth of loss for someone who was directly affected by the horrors of that day. but i can say that as an American, i agree whole-heartedly with what you say here.

I wish I was there to be with my family and friends in New York on 9/11. Though I have not lived in New York since 1986, I am still very much a New York girl. Always was, am, and always will be. I was never prouder of our wonderful city until that day. I have been sad these past few days; getting upset, mad or crying whenever I see images from 9/11. But, that said, I know that we are giving the murderers what they deserve. We are over there getting retribution for all of horrors and pain they caused so many americans on that fateful day. Brendan, I am blessed and honored to call you my friend. You are the real deal. You are the NYPD, THIN BLUE LINE. You are a hero in every sense of the word. Thank You for all that you have done to keep so many New Yorkers safe throughout the years. We can not turn back time and bring our family and loved ones back. But, we can help their memories live on; in our hearts and minds by NEVER FORGETTING.

God Bless You, Brendan and God Bless our NYPD and FDNY.

Brendan,
I can't say that I feel your pain, but I am sure in agreement with you on so many point that you really made in this blog.

My deepest heart-felt sympathy to you and to everyone this shocking and heart-wrenchign event effected directly and indirectly. It cut America deep, throughout the country, but I'm sure it even hit harder those who were there.

Hugs,
Candy
