Current mood:  curious

So I'm feelin' this blogging thing. If anything, it's getting me to write some more. I mean, who knows if anyone's reading it, but I feel good and Devi (that's my therapist) would be proud.

OK, so today's entry (and I may just update it frequently throughout the day when I get more ideas) is really about MySpace and the questions and quandries I have with it.

As a former web editor you'd think I'd have this shit downpat, but that's so far from the truth. I mean, yes I did manage to create my own background using a photo I found and some code (and it's cool, right?), but other than that, there are just some things I don't get. For instance:

1) Why do people find it necessary to post comments that are really meant for an IM conversation or an email?
Like, what's up with comments that say "hey, what's up?" Am I supposed to answer you via your comment space? Just seems like an unecessary amount of conversational posts that'll bulk up your page and bore your viewers. Whatever happened to the good ole, plain comment about or for that person? A friendster testimonial, of sorts?

2) Do people accept everyone as their friends?
I'm guessing it depends on the person and how 'popular' they are, or really, want to be pursued as. But it just feels weird to me to accept the friendship of 15-year-old girls who want to be an editor or 48-year-old married guys who want to be my sugar daddy.

3) Speaking of friends, what's with the Top 8?
I wonder if people get offended (or great pleasure, on the other hand) knowing they are or aren't in someone's Top 8. Like, if I put you in, and then take you out -- are you mad at me? Do I need to give you an explanation? I would assume that the more friends you have, your likeliness of getting in someone's Top 8 decreases, hence increasing your coolness if your face does, in fact, make a Top 8 appearance. Right? Also, is placement in the Top 8 a big deal? The first spot vs. the 8th?

That's all I have right now... will post some more when they come to me. In the meantime, please feel free to share your thoughts below.
