Hey folks...just trying to figure out where to put info about the songs up there in my player. What about in this here blog-space? I mentioned Static and Idle Hands in my introductory entry above (below?). Since then, I've posted a few more acoustic-guitar-and-voice arrangements (all recorded simultaneously -- guitar and voice together -- here at home directly into the computer, but with a lot of removal of parts where I stop and go "umm...not like that...like this!"). Of these, I think the ones that I haven't replaced yet are "The Ruler" and...wait, no that's all. I had "A Place" up there for a bit, but there's only room for 6-songs, so you might have missed it. Anyway, "The Ruler" was one of my favorite tunes from "Trouble", which only a hundred or so people have copies of, so I thought it would be cool to do a new arrangement. Mostly, I'm super happy with how this came out...I think it's easier to hear the basic emotional thrust of the song with the simpler guitar-backing and the dry voice. There are a couple of places towards the end where it seems like perhaps I could've benefited from a recording environment where I wasn't worried that I was going to wake the neighbors' baby after 11pm. Still, if you like it, perhaps it will tempt you to pick up a copy of "Trouble" (by neon brown 2006). The original tune was assembled from a fantastic acoustic jam with Adrian and me and Zane Williams and Randy Neal at the Chai House. I tried to condense a few movements out of what was originally a dense interwoven acoustic improv and then wrote lyrics and vocals for them. The unusual basic "structure" of the tune surely owes a pile to these origins. But enough on that. Actually, enough on this whole entry! (This was gonna be about all of the tunes in the player, but clearly I've got to split these up...I'm going to change the title of this to "The Ruler" and pinch it off here.) More soonly!
