What were you doing when you were 14 or 15 years old? Probably enjoying your first year of high school and getting adapted to being a teenager, or maybe you were releasing your first record and playing shows like best friends, 15-year old Keira Verlee and 14-year old Ellie Rose. VerleeRose is their name and their just released record “These Moments” is already creating some buzz. Wise beyond their years, this acoustic guitar and piano driven record is ambitious, daring, simple and serene. These young girls know how to write catchy music that’s meaningful.
Songs like “Falling Fast”, “A Day Ago”, and “All My Mistakes” are as simple as Beatles songs with a sound comparable to that of The Format. Encouraging melodies about growing up, discovering one’s self, and change is their message conveyed simply through lyrics like “It’ll all work out. I don’t know how. These things always seem to and I have faith that they do…” Two songs that really show their vocal abilities and musicianship are the free spirited, lively “Nowhere”, and dark, edgy, “Would You”. Both songs have two versions on the record. “Nowhere” has a more techno mixed version by Kelly Dale and “Would You” is sung a cappella and features overlapping, harmonizing vocals from Michael George.
