Current mood:  focused
Category: Life

I guess the category "Life" is a good one, considering where I live.  I'm sitting here watching the news on Hurricane Dolly.  Yep, "Tis the Season" here on the coast.  Hurricane season that is and it's time to "prepare".  Okay, I'm as prepared as I'm gonna get.  Pack a bag they say, I'm a road comic, I'm always packed.  I have ice chest ready to empty the frig and when time come, tape up the windows and get the hell off the island.

Some people I know lately have made comments about "riding out a storm".  Okay you don't "ride out" a storm dumbass, you pray the damn thing doesn't kill you or anyone you know.  I have been through more hurricanes than I like to remember.  Some were basically tropical storms, and made for good parties, otheres, not so much.  I rode out hurricanes Lilly and Rita in my home town.  We didn't leave because my Mom was Mayor then and she felt it necessary to stay to make sure all emergency teams were ready.  So we stayed, but not the next one, she has since retired and "fuck it" we're gone.

I have friends in the Corpus, South Padre, and McAllen area, and I'm praying that they are safe.  Storms like this are unpredicatable, you never know what they are going to bring.  Trust me I'm holding my breath until I know this bitch is gone.  Why?  Because I've seen them go back into the gulf and switch positions.  Until  this thing has been downgraded to drizzle, none of us on the Texas/Louisiana coast can put our guards down.  Now, some people would wonder why we live here, because we love it.  Just like some of my friends love the mountains, those of us born on or near the water, well we just love it.  And we respect it.  This weekend the gulf here in Galveston was perfect, good waves, clear water.  Right now, she's is pissed, and when the gulf is pissed you get out of her way.  By tomorrow hopefully she will be back to beautiful and calm.

But, for now, I ask that you pray and keep those that are going through this in your thoughts.  Especially in the Houston/Galveston area, next time it could be us.

Caroline

I agree, get the hell out of the way if you can. However, most of my family are firefighters and law enforcement so they are required to stay. Id stay unless it gets past a 3.
But with gas prices the way they are, i said this a few weeks back at the stop as a joke but its one of the most true things ive said. "i cant afford to evacuate".
I dont really know of anybody who can run up to dallas and back again if theres no work in it.
Ive had to sit thru bonnie and alica which were small storms but still tore shit up. I might be forced to sit thru another one too.
If anything, ill just wait for the eye, so i can go out looting with the rest of my neighbors.

Nicely said.

As I was driving to work I noticed the highway department had signs telling us to fill our tanks up.

Yea, I'll do that. When I win the fucking lottery. For now, it get $10 at a time. Hopefully Houston will get some much needed rain, but more than likely we'll got too damn much and it'll flood. It had better be clear next weeked for my Galveston vacation... cause if I'm stuck sittin in a room playing solitare on my couple of days off, someone's gonna die.

LOL, this will be out of the area by this afternoon. So far not much rain here at all. I tanked up my truck, but it's still parked. I pick and choose where I got to go you can bet on that. If we have to evacuate the island, you can bet I'll be the first one gone. I will probably just head to my buddies house on 610 and Stella Link, don't think the surge is gonna make it that for.

Oh yeah it's funny now, especially you telling us about the skunk and the cow trying to get into the house. I'm home, but it was quiet on the island, nothing to report. Houston got more rain than we did. We can laugh about it, but when I think back it still seems sureal. I remember coming down the main drag to get you guys and just seeing everything under water. When we got close to ya'll it was hard to see where to turn, there was nothing above water that showed where the curve in the road was, hell there was no road. Then riding through town and seeing everyone's homes that we all knew with water in their homes. I pray girl that we don't ever go through that again. Even though riding in an airboat was way cool. Love ya back cousin.
