MASK review by Metal Insanity
"Civillian's three track CD ..Mask.. is one of the most-unique compositions that I have heard at Myspace. The track ..Don..t Die.. blends Death Metal chants with their Vocals that seem fitting (a nice touch). The guitars are a mix of Progressive Clean overtones compressed with Chorus Effects (reminding me of Queensryche - Suite Sister Mary, yet Civillian has their own unique style) and a stunning guitar it is; combined with thundering Power Chords! Nice touch with the solo and the Wah Pedal. At one point, Civillian even Thrashes their guitars at the end of ..Don..t Die... ..m/ All three tracks on the Mask CD are radio friendly. Civillian is a very young group with great potential. They have mastered the timing, and should they extend into the realm of Power Metal and Progressive Metal genres with their ability on guitars, I could see them going far. There playing style is not boring at all, they have many time changes and utilize many different riffs in their work. They..re widely influenced by Iron Maiden in their guitar styling; though I like hearing epic solos, Civillian keeps it short and sweet. I was impressed with Don..t Die and the Death Vocals because of that I gave them 5/5. The three tracks on Mask .. Mask, Empty, and Don't Die can be heard at their Myspace"
PLANTATION CAFÉ JUNE 06
From the moment the first guitar string was strung and the first drum beat was blasted, the crowd went crazy. I honestly didn't think it would be possible for such a small cafe to hold so many moshing teens. Civillian gave off this awesome aura of energy as they played, which was perfectly balanced with the excellent harmonic, yet screamo vocals. With their Avenged Sevenfold sounding guitar playing and heavy blast beat drumming they were definitely onto a whole crowd pleaser. Their consistent style of heavy death metal, fused with melodic metal blending perfectly into each other, there was only one way to describe it. Awesome. There next song was a slight change to the screamo metal that had previously been heard. Black Star started out with gentle riffs, but as the band and the crowd knew, they were building up to something. As if they hadn't changed their style, Civillian morphs this subtle song back into hardcore metal roots, with the vocals varying much like Metallica's James Hetfield.Civillian with their fusion of Epic metal, Post Hardcore and Classic metal, their awesome energy, insane guitar solo's, technical drumming, inspiring bass riffs and ability to command a stage and the crowd, are definitely a band to watch out for.
PLANET LOUD OCT 06 by Graham Finney
There is a lot of interest in local boys Civillian and we're not just talking from the local kids who headbang themselves silly from the moment the band take to the stage. Like Portrait before them, Civillian also pull the right rock star moves but there is something more convincing about the way they execute them. Mixing Bullet For My Valentine tinged metal with a more melodic edge, Civillian are definitely a band with a lot of potential in them. They've got quality material in songs like Blackstar and I reckon with a bit of tightening up and a lot of hard work over the next twelve months, Civillian will be ready to step outside their local scene.
ROCK SOUND review April 2007 issue
"Civillian rock the small stage with a note-perfect intensity beyond their years, and an energy that comes straight from them. With their bullet-style licks and easy confidence they persuade a willing crowd to sit on the floor and bounce back up, inciting a mini riot. It's a performance worthy of band of the month" by Eleanor Goodman
ASTRA MUSIC SHOP & BAR LOUNGE review May 4th 2007
Last night's gig showcased two great bands who have a huge talent in their field!
The first band were Civillian. Fresh off a national tour with Il Nino and Drowning Pool, they played a set that showed their experience and ability to perform as opposed to roll out the CD tracks. They played a blistering set which sounded excellent in the bar room. Noisy? Yes-but good noise is never a bad thing... It might not be rock 'n' roll to admit it: but they were a very friendly band and spoke to the people that had assembled to watch them with no air of superiority. Considering their march towards stardom, it was a refreshing change to some of the attitudes that have accompanied bands in through the door! by Catherine Jackson
