"If you look at the list of directors who have started in short films - Ridley Scott, Stephen Daldry and others, it is clear that shorts underpin the film industry in this country, and have always been the place to look for groundbreaking talent. I love being involved in them" Kris Marshall

>>Many people will have first encountered Kris Marshall as Belmondo, the louche wannabe anti-hero in Toby MacDonald's affectionate homage to Nouvelle Vague cinema, JE T'AIME JOHN WAYNE. Marshall's charm and comic timing made an instant and memorable impression. It was a rare case of a short that made a breakthrough to mainstream audiences by playing in front of feature films via the Short Circuits scheme, this success continuing with it's DVD release as part of Cinema 16. And despite increasing work in television, theatre and features, Marshall has continued to make short films, showing a rare and inquisitive loyalty to the format.

>>Most of his short film roles are comedic, and in 2002 he picked up a British Comedy Award for Best Newcomer for his role in TV series MY FAMILY. But Marshall has shown diversity in his roles. Taking the lead in Jack Herbert's short DOG FLAP was a striking venture into darker territory (albeit with a dollop of black humour), dealing with emotional consequences. Choices such as this give the distinct impression that Marshall continues to use shorts to stretch and experiment as a performer.
