Frequently Asked Questions

From our Web site, http://www.deluxeok.net/

Are you still taking applications?
Yes!
We have a few more booths for the right artists. Apply today before
we're totally full!  If your work uses innovative techniques, original
designs and/or green
materials, we'd love to see it!

How do I get to Deluxe?
We're at Oklahoma State Fair Park, in the Centennial Building. This is just off of I-44, a couple miles west of I-35.

What kinds of things will be available at Deluxe?
See our Category List
here

Where can I get an application?
Here.

Will there be a prize for the
best display again this year?
Yes!
The vendor who creates the most lovely, interesting and thoughtful
display will win a $50 cash prize, a swell rosette and their booth fees
for their next Deluxe event will be waived.

Can  share a booth with my friend?
Yes, but you and your friend must each apply for separate booths
and request placement next to each other. If you want to set up your physical space
as one unit, that’s fine with us. This is to make it easy on JD, who is placing
vendors in 100+ booths. Don't forget that each applicant must submit a $10 application fee.

I offer artistic services such as caricatures, custom portraits and photography. Should I apply to Deluxe?Yes!

Can I sell supplies
or other items which I did not make with my own hands (sewing machine, lathe,
et al)?

Probably not. But ask us if you think you’ve got something
which will change our minds.

Am I responsible for collecting sales tax as a Deluxe Vendor?
Yes.
The
tax you collect includes both city and state taxes. The rate you will
charge (8.375%) is the total of the 2
rates. You will need to submit a form to Deluxe directors noting your
sales for the day, and remit payment to the state. Many vendors
calculate tax when they price their items in advance so it's a nice,
even number - be sure to post a sign in your booth telling customers
that your prices include sales tax if you choose to do this.

Will lunch be
catered?

No, but the state fair will set up a food booth at Deluxe.
If you have a strict diet, it’s best to bring your own snacks and meals.

Who’s in charge of
Deluxe?

JD McCoy and Sara Cowan, two of the original Deluxe
directors.

Where is Stephanie?
She is working on other projects this spring,
including her
own ventures, The House of Craft and Swap-O-Rama-Rama, in addition to
work with Bad Grannies Bazaar and RINK Gallery. She'll be at Deluxe
representing her Juju line!

I have a big wad of cash to throw at you. Do you want it?Yes! If you're a locally-owned business we'd love your sponsorship. We'll put your logo on our site and our print ads.

Does my stuff qualify
for participation in Deluxe?

If you made it and it’s interesting and original,
apply! Be sure it's family-friendly. People sometimes bring kids to
Deluxe and there is no "Adults Only" section.  If your business card
says "Independent Sales Representative," probably not.

Can I sell food at
Deluxe?

Only if it’s not packaged to be immediately consumed
on-site. Jars of spices, peanut butter – yes. Fudge, roasted peanuts,
no. These are the State
Fair rules. Sorry! If you are unsure, email us before you apply.

Will you be advertising, promoting and generally pimping
out this event?

Yes, yes and yes! Look for ads in ArtBeat magazine, online and listen
for our sponsorship on KGOU. We also promote on Twitter, MySpace,
Facebook and print media via press releases. All the more reason to
send in quality photos of your product!

What can I do to help promote Deluxe?
There
will be postcards, posters and other printed promos available at our
meetup in early April. Take these and spread the word! There will also
be online ads for use on MySpace. We'll send info on these to your
email as they become available.

Do you have any tables I can rent for my booth?

Yes, the cost is $10 to rent an 8 foot table. You
can add this fee onto your booth fee in your application.

Are tables or chairs included in the booth fee?
No.
In order to keep booth fees low, we let vendors "itemize" their needs.
No use paying for a table or electricity if you don't need them, right?
You will need to bring a chair if you require one.

Is this an indoor event?

Yes! The Centennial Building at State Fair Park is lovely and air-conditioned.

Can I demonstrate my craft at my booth?

By all means, yes! Especially if elbow grease is your fuel. If you need
electricity, contact us so we can place you in a booth with an outlet.
Electricity use costs us money so you will need to pay $25 for this service.

How many vendors will be there?

We have space for more than 100 vendors, all handcrafted, all the time.

My granny wants to apply but she doesn't like computers. What can she do?

You can be a sweetheart and print our application for her. She can mail it to us at

Deluxe

PO Box 57853

Oklahoma City, OK 73157

My items are not handmade, but they are really cute/cheap/piratey/useful.
Should I apply to Deluxe?

No.

When will I know if my work was accepted?

We have sent out emails to the early applicants. If you applied after
March 1 or if you have not heard from us, please send us an email.

I was not selected as a Deluxe artist. What happens to the booth fee check I sent you?Your booth fee check will be destroyed.
Why wasn't my work accepted to Deluxe?
We have many talented applicants, but unfortunately we are not able to accept everyone. There are many possible reasons which may or may not apply to your work:

  • Incomplete application - this is the most common reason.
  • Too many vendors of your product type already selling at Deluxe
  • Copyright infringement issues with your designs
All director decisions are final. Thank you for respecting the work we do.
