Why does it seem so expensive?

There is a limit to how low we're prepared to allow the quality of our work to go. We don't shoot on consumer quality equipment. This means that at any time you can use the material we shoot for you for DVD or broadcast television.

We pay our camera operators just enough for them not to be insulted, no more. Without good operators you need more cameras (and operators) to cover for each others mistakes and get the same level of quality. It's false economy to do it any other way, believe us. We've tried it.

Post production takes time. Time that people and expensive gear could be working on something else that would probably make us alot more money. We offer our services at a rate that keeps us living the same level of luxury as the up and coming bands we're trying to help.

Also check out 'how can we can make it cheaper?' and 'who owns the copyright?'

How can we make it cheaper?
Split the cost with the other bands on your lineup. It only costs us around 15% more to record another set on the same night at the same venue. We don't have to rent more gear and only have to pay our crew a little more. If you get one or more of the other bands on the bill to have their show recorded too, you can all split the overall cost and share in the reduced rate. The only catch is, you all have to agree on the same package.

eg.
The Real Deal - 2 Band Split
$2400 + $360 (15%) = $2760
/ 2 Bands = $1380 each
Both bands save $1020 off the price of booking it alone. That's 42% off!

TheReal Deal - 3 Band Split
$2400 + $720 (30%) = $3120
/ 3 Bands = $1040 each
All bands save $1360 off the price of booking it alone. That's 56% off!

Who owns the copyright?

All copyright for the recording will be assigned to the performers. Should any part of the performance be a cover of another artists work it will be the performers responsibility to obtain the rights from the copyright owner of the written work. The production company will reserve the right to use the recording for promotional purposes only.

Do we get to keep the original recordings?
Yes. The original camera tapes and audio recordings will be provided uponcompletion of the project.

Do you keep a master in case I lose mine?
Yes,we will master all completed work to tape. A small fee will apply should you need another copy. We also keep the project file so that you can always bring the source material back and we can easily rebuild the entire project and keep working on it.

How long will it take?
Your single track will be completed within seven days of the recording, unless otherwise notified. Should you need it sooner, let us know and we'll see what we can do. It's usually no problem.
If you're having more than one track produced to completionstage, you'll most likely receive it within fourteendays.

What are your payment terms?

We're a small business and our cashflow is usually quite tight. This means you get a great product for the smallest amount of money possible. It also means that we're gonna need some cash up front.

50% a couple of days before, so we canrent gear and buy tape stock.
50% on completion so we can paycrew (and our rent).

What's the difference between the Multitrack recording and the Stereo Desk Feed option?

Recording the font of house mix leaves you at the mercy of the venue's operator. Any decision (or mistake) they makeis what you get. They might do a shit mix, or choose just the right amount of reverb for that room, but not for your recording. The multitrack option means that the recording will be clean and able to be mixed after the show.

Can we record our own audio?

Yes.We provide the stereo desk feed and room mic option at no charge, so there will be no discount if you do it yourself. You're welcome to multitrack one of our low end packages and we'll edit your footage tothe mix you provide. If you multitrack instead of us on the Real Deal or the Overkill, we'll takeoff that cost from the overall price.

Can we edit / mix it ourselves?

Of course, you own it. You'll still get one track edited and uploaded as part of each package if you choose. We want you to walk away with somekind of finished product even if you must record that milestone gig but can't afford any post production yet. Should you choose not to have this service provided, you won't receiveany discount as this service is essentially provided as a freebie on top of the recording.

Will our venue be too big / too small?
No. We're ok with anything from an acoustic show, lit bycampfire light, to a packed stadium.

Venues we've recorded at include Sydney's Annandale, Metro, Enmore, Selina's, The Hordern, Melbourne's Hi Fi Bar and Brisbane's Arena. We've also recorded at festivals including Sydney's Cometogether, Cockatoo Island, Newcastle's Strikeback, Byron's Bluesfest, as well as Woodford in Queensland. Oh, and there was that time we shot Angus & Julia Stone do an acoustic set on Sydney's Bungan with Livecast. Beach.

How can we help make it as good as it can possibly be?
Hire a lighting guy. If you can, rent some extra lights too. If this is out of the question, get a copy of our 'Help us by helping the video crew' pdf. Print it, buy a beer and give both the beer and the page to the venue lighting operator. Try to do this before they have selected their gels and programmed the desk. During the evening drop by with the odd extra beer and friendly smile. Oh, and if you don't like smoke your show won't look as good on camera.

If you're getting a stereo desk feed recording it could be a good idea to buy the sound operator abeer too as they'll be doing you a favour by giving you a line out for your recording. Considering their mix will be the final mix, it's best to have them on your side. This means everyone being on time or even early for sound check.

If you're comfortable moving around on stage, move. If you're not comfortable moving on stage, try and move a little more than usual.

Let us know if your set (including any encore) is going to go for more than an hour, and keep a setlist for us.

Push hard to get a full room, especially if you're the support act. More important than there being a full room is that you play like the room is full.
