Master Musicians Of Bukkake’s newest record and part of a Northwest trilogy, Marks an evolution from their first record 'Visible Sign Of the Invisible order' (Abduction records 2005). MMOB has now solidified into a 7 piece cosmic psyche force. Like a reverse dark side of the New Age sound, on the Totem series Master Musicians of Bukkake perform ritualistic electric excursions into the outer and inner reaches. Relying more on the electric power of psyched guitars, analog synth chants, and exotic heavy percussion. Totem one echos with the delusions of a West Coast Death cult. Outer spaced Gamelan, dusty fuzz rock from celestial deserts, meditations of a deranged Krishna gathering, and the Blurry acoustic guitar majesty of The Cascade mountains all reveal themselves here in epic form On Totem One. Every sound and note played put to tape by a group with a singular purging purpose. Totem one also features Vocals By MMOB honorary member Alan Bishop of the Sun City Girls. Totem One will be available early 2009 on Conspiracy records followed by EU and US touring from Master Musicians of Bukkake.

REVIEW BY AQUARIUS RECORDS
Sun City Girls fans! Drone-doom freaks! Here's your unlikely crossover dream come true, kind of. A psychedelically heavy (sometimes) and always eerily exotic new album on the Conspiracy label from this band with the wiseass faux-ethnic name (if you don't know what Bukkake is, don't ask, and definitely don't Google it - if you do, be aware it's NSFW). Now including members of Earth and Burning Witch amongst their ranks, and once again boasting cameo appearances from folks belonging to the Sun City Girls and Secret Chiefs 3, this is exactly (and excellently) what we might have expected from this project. Acoustic ethnic instrument buzz and drone meets guitars-leaning-on-amps buzz and drone. There's electronic FX and analog synths alongside field recordings, bells and chimes and gamelan percussion mixed with Tibetan monkish low-end drone-chant, and let's not forget the flute and Mellotron... The seven tracks of Totem One span a wild, wide range of (moody) moods, from the heavy throbbing maelstrom that is "Schism Prism / Adamatios" to the spacey, spooky folk ramble of "Cascade Cathedral". The most Sun City Girlish moment here is probably "People Of The Drifting Houses", not surprisingly the track which features guest vocals provided by Alan Bishop of SCGs and Sublime Frequencies fame.
"In The Lightness Of The Sonoran" could be the recently reviewed Harappian Night Recordings attempting to channel SUNNO))), whilst other tracks (simultaneously) bring to mind such not-entirely-disparate artists as Angus MacLise, Blood Of The Black Owl, Six Organs Of Admittance, Ghost, and Acid Mothers Temple. The latter especially, for instance on the most freaked out parts of the aforementioned "Schism Prism / Adamatios" or during the blissful ceremony of the album-ending nine minute long "Eaglewolf". Fantastic. We're now eagerly looking forward to further Totem installments! (Totem Two is due out later this year on the SCG-related Abduction label, that released MMOB's prior album as well.)
NB. The vinyl version of this comes with a coupon for free mp3 download of the whole album.

REVIEW BY JULIAN COPE!
Okay, we’d better move on to the review section before I give away my gameplan. First off, I have to alert y’all to the splendidly stupefying rituals that pervade TOTEM ONE by the Master Musicians of Bukkake, on Conspiracy Records. Unlike the Master Musicians of Jujuku and the Master Musicians of Buggeru, this seven-piece hails not from North Africa nor even Sardinia, but from Grunge Mecca, yup, Seattle! Seems as though these dudes is from that same Commune scene as Valley of Ashes and Zodiac Mountain, and it’s to these druids that future discontented US Youth will travel once the States break up in the next 20 years or so. And, boy, do we have some wonderful heathens planned for the next Yankee generation if this is the music they’re going to be born to. Whoa, these Master Musicians hit monolithic percussion and monolithic tuned percussion (marimbas, glockenspiels, xylophones), whilst intoning deep bass monotones like priests of Minos in a Zeusian antron… Sheesh! Imagine the massed ranks of OSOREZAN-period Geino Yamashirogumi being joined on a permanently rotating stage by the Breton bombardists of the Kevrenn Alré, the dear dancing biddies of Osaka’s Bon-odori, the power trio-period Ash Ra Tempel and Yoko Ono. Record them as they pass by repeatedly and this album may be a close approximation of your results. Fabulously useful AND fabulous at the same time, if my innate Odinism wasn’t so totally in opposition to all things Zen, I’d weaken and use that word to describe some of this music. Ahem. Catch its wonder via Conspiracy Records or hassle these druids at myspace.com/mastermusiciansofbukkake.
