Current mood:  complacent

Honestly I dont really think its a bad thing for Nas calling his album Nigger. Nas is being scrutinized by the mainstream media for the title of the album and criticized for different reasons before he even announced the title of his album. I wondering if it would be a big of an issue if it was in any genre other than Hip Hop.

Obviously it's not as big of a deal because Richard Pryor brought out comedy videos called That Nigger's Crazy, Bicentennial Nigger, and Supernigger, while Dick Gregory wrote Nigger: An Autobiography with Robert Lipsyte. Dave Chappelle used the word a lot even creating a white family called the Niggars. Nas is a well respected widely known audience, but the Chappelle Show has been viewed by a large scale mainstream audience, while Nas is on a slight smaller scale. Now why is it suddenly such a big issue when Nas calls his upcoming album Nigger? Honestly, can somebody tell me why it's suddenly a problem?

I heard about Rev. Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson speaking out on the albums title and I just don't understand why Al Sharpton believes the word is going to set us back as a people. I know it's a strong word, but if a SINGLE WORD can set us back, I wonder HOW FAR HAVE WE REALLY COME? So I won't buy into that we are degrading ourselves by using it. I don't feel blacks are degrading themselves by using the word at all, but I understand if it hurts Rev. Al Sharpton when he hears it because he was part the civil rights movement. I at the same time think he doesn't try to understand the new generation. Believe it or not the word  is going to stick around until the last person dies, so why not embrace it?

I also have to speak about the fools at Fox News. They are the main people who criticize Nas for the title, while they are the kind of people who invented the word in the first place, and now they are trying to knock blacks for using it? That just sounds absurd to me. Think about Bill O'Reilly for a second, when have you heard him talk good about somebody black unless that black person said something bad about another black person? Correct me if I'm wrong, but I haven't. I mean they pictured Nas like he was a ganging banging, murder glorifying rapper, when anybody who would listen to more than "Shoot 'em Up" knows that he is far from that.

Lastly, I have to ask how you are going to believe that Nas is trying to glorify the use of the word? Nasir Jones? NIGGA PLEASE! Come on now. They are making him look like he dumb or wants to use the controversy around the title as a marketing plan to sell albums. I mean it's a slick move to cause controversy, but to think he won't have a deeper meaning behind it is just ignorant. Nas is one of the most intelligent rappers I heard in my life if not the most intelligent, which is the same reason he is my favorite rapper. I cannot and will not believe that Nas would just call his album nigger for no other reason, but to stir up controversy. I know I don't know him personally and never held a conversation with him, but I strongly believe he is to sincere and intelligent to do something like that. JUST WAIT TIL HIS ALBUM DROPS.
