Manchester-based producer Ruthit and his “Not A Problem” 12” is the latest blast of new talent from Four:Twenty and features a rather fine remix from Playhouse artists My My alongside two superb originals.
A trained audio engineer with a fascination for organic sounds and warmth that they bring to tracks, Ruthit is a relative newcomer to house music yet his tracks have a rare, mature quality both musically and technically.
The titular track is melodic deep house with a shuffling vibe and airy feel but with a kick that really kicks and a smattering of heavy toms which really give the track some weight while the top end ebbs, flows and shimmers with intricate top end percussion.
Lee Jones and Nick Höppner as My My deliver one of their best pieces of work to date in their remix of ‘Not A Problem’. The originals piano work remains intact while the chords subtly melt in and out of the background above a modulated synth bass which shouldn’t work, but does (beautifully).
“Cameronian (RIP)” rounds the release off. Although more drummy and urgent than ‘Not A Problem’ it’s sporadic piano and sustained strings give it a similarly deep sound, but one which will suit late-night sets or afterhours due to a more skewed vibe.
Forward thinking house music is the order of the day across all three tracks here, and it’s a superb debut for Ruthit – an artist who is almost certainly one to watch.
