OK, so I haven't posted in awhile. But I've been busy! I'm in NYC doing a summer internship, and I've been trying to make the most of it. Tonight I paid a visit to the Gotham Girls Roller Derby league in a gymnasium at City College of New York. First, it was flat track, and I've gotten pretty used to banked track. Second, since they don't appear to have a permanent home, they make their track by laying down mat tiling. This probably makes it a slightly cushier fall, but I would worry about it not being completely smooth. It seemed to work out, though. It was the Manhattan Mayhem vs. the Bronx Gridlock. The Bronx girls appeared to be the crowd favorite, and for good reason. Most of the first half, the Gridlock were ahead by twice as many points. This made the bout a little slow, and I think they tried to mix it up a little in the second half. The Mayhem snuck up on them, and the last handful of jams were neck-and-neck. The crowd was clearly more into it at this point. But alas, the Mayhem just wasn't able to pull it ahead.

Last weekend was Gay Pride, and I was fortunate to have found the Dyke March. I watched the entire Pride Parade from start to finish - an impressive 4 hours in the sun. Very inspiring.

I'm heading back to Austin for a week and then back to the Big City for another six weeks. I think I could get used to this city...
