Current mood: breezy
Kava Kava have had a lot of love from the US, playing some dates, getting the music
into some great TV shows like WEEDS, JOHN FROM CINCINNATI, DIRT and recently the amazing snowboarding game
STOKED. The most recent development is a partnership with a new US label - we are anticipating a new video for the track "Clarity"
(song just up on the kava kava myspace folks!) and a full length album release
called FORWARDS. This has been licensed for JUST the US and Canadian
territories for now, but we should have the music out in other
countries too soon enough. Read the label's press release here:
UK’s KAVA KAVA SIGN TO MIDNIGHT SWIMMING; NEW ALBUM “FORWARDS” COMING THIS SUMMER
“Soulful
war-esque dark funk, draped in a deep pile velvety psychedelia with the
sort of effortless classic rock vocal that shiny stars are surely made
of." Bull & Gate, UK
New York, NY, March 25, 2009 – KAVA
KAVA have been profiled as one of ‘the’ bands from the Yorkshire area
of the UK to look out for. Think Corrine Bailey Rae/Kaiser
Chiefs/Arctic Monkeys, and most recently Paul Marshall. Their music has
been featured in TV series such as, JOHN FROM CINCINNATI, DIRT and
WEEDS, and they have three songs on the newly released XBOX
snowboarding game, STOKED. Their new record, FORWARDS will be released
in the US on Midnight Swimming in June on digital and vinyl. “Kava
Kava has created a musical chimera that is equal parts P-Funk and Roxy
Music, as indebted to Stax soul and the Philly sound as it is to the
Manchester beat and Brian Eno.” Alt.Culture.US
Originally
starting as four-piece psychedelic funk band gracing the underground
festival and party scene, KAVA KAVA has now expanded into a fleshed out
six piece that fully realizes an eclectic, yet cohesive wall of sound.
The
vocals of singer Pat Fulgoni are accompanied by a revolving line-up
that includes Matt Bond guitar, Martin Chung bass, Chris Corrigan
drums, Steve Davies and Ian Bailey horn section alongside vocals,
guitars, electronica, brass, strings and a funky rhythm section. The
dynamics between all of the different elements of KAVA KAVA truly add
up to an individualistic new incarnation of sound without forgetting to
pay homage to the history of those sounds.
“Should be on every funk and disco playlist, period!..Love it!" DJ Magazine (UK)
