Well, every so often, one gets invited to be a part of something special. This past weekend was one of those times for me. And I will be forever grateful and honored.
Started out the weekend tired and agitated. After being strung out at work all week, I had to call my good buddy josh Mac to help cover me at a show at Benny's in Longview. Gotta love Josh. He came and played from 9 til 11 when I got there. He is always there to bail me out when I call. Played for a couple hours myself. Small crowd, but a good one. They danced and enjoyed the songs. After loading my stuff out, I was too tired to even stop for the ritual taquito at Whataburger. Just ready to get home and get some sleep. Gina just reminded me why I love her again when we got home. She fixed eggs, bacon and toast for me at 2:30 in the morning, because she knew I had to be hungry. God I love that woman!
Saturday, I had to make a trip to town and hustle up some cash for the Sunday trip. With that done, we headed home and I hit the "magic room", aka my humble lil home studio. I had decided it was time to record some of the new songs I had been working on. After staying up til 3am recording, I fell asleep in my recliner while taking a break. guess that was a sign to shut it down for the night.
Sunday morning, I wake to the sound of Gina telling me "Get your ass outta bed or we ain't gonna make it!" LOL She makes a very convincing alarm clock. Load the needed stuff, and head out to College Station.
This is where the "something special" comes in. My good friends Ben Morris and the Great American Boxcar Chorus have put on an event called Harestock(which I still chuckle at the sound of since Ben is bald!) that helps fund Ready for Texas. I was extremely surprised and honored to have Ben ask me if I wanted to come play this year. Of course, I said YES!
Just walking around Harestock is like being at a Hall of Fame gathering of Texas Music. Just to name a few of those playing Harestock '09 to give you an idea: Mike Ethan Messick, Luke Adair, Michael Wren, Andrea Marie, Britt Lloyd, Tres Womack and many other GREAT artists. You get the idea. I was truly in the presense of greatness.
It was an amazing event. Except for the "flying canopy" and the now paraplegic gnome(victim of said canopy), everything ran pretty smooth and I applaud the Boxcars for such a fine event. I promise you, if I am ever asked to play it again, I will be there. Wouldn't miss it for the world.
After the long ride home, and then getting up to drive another 2 hrs to work, I still haven't caught up on my rest. One of these days, I'll break out and go fulltime with the tunage. Maybe then I can do the whole rockstar thing and sleep all day, rock out all night. but til then, I guess I'll just have to keep drinking green Monsters. Until next time, remember, don't take no wooden nickels, drink upstream from the herd, and pictures will be used against you. LOL
Peace, Love, and Chicken Grease! I'm Out!
