Tales From the Seventh Circle of Hell Living in Medford can be a bitch. Sometimes more than that.

(I)

Her blue eyes were nature's Eighth Wonder of the World.

Like two flaming pokers burning into one man's soul they were, always there before you, staring at you, even after she had long since gone.

She left a burning passion that spread like wildfire through the heart of every man whose face she looked upon.

Throughout the fields would she walk by day, dressed all in summer white as she sang with the Blue Jays their sweet summer song.

And when at last she took her leave of them, sadly would they think of her and 'til she returned will they all sing nevermore.

(II)

At dinner that night I did not eat, but simply sat and stared at her.

When she asked me what in Heaven's name was wrong, I merely smiled and said to her, "Nothing, dear," while she smiled back and finished her meal then went to bed.

The maid took our dishes from the table while I sat there in a daze, staring at the raven that had perched upon the sill.

 (III)

That night would I hold her life in my hands, and give to her the beauteous gift of immortality in its finest, most natural form.

It was two to midnight when I set my plan to action.

I took my silver dagger and, lying straight in both hands, I walked into my lover's chamber, where she sat upon the silk duvet of our queen-sized bed, slowly brushing the curls from her glistening, fine gold hair.

I sat next to her upon the bed, taking her hand that held the brush firmly in my own, hence sharing with me my own burning passion.

Fast catching my heated hint, she smiled coquettishly into my steely eyes and slowly, slowly did I thus embrace her and kiss her in a lustful fashion.

(IV)

Caw, caw did the murder of crows go as they flew past our chamber window.

Still kissing her rosy red lips, did I slowly, cautiously, sneakily grab my silver dagger from where it lay upon my red silk pillow whilst she laid beneath me.

My other hand kept her head facing the door.

Oh, how lovingly, heatedly, did I make a trail of tender kisses down her lithe and swan-like neck as, from the corner of her eye, did she so try to keep her watch on me.

From the corner of my eye did I see the raven perch, lightly, lightly on our sill staring straight, unblinkingly at me.

Forever, I decided, would she stay this way, so beautiful, flawless and perfect, if only just for me

(V)

With the tip of my shining silver dagger did I so pierce her heart, the song of the nightingale floating softly on the winds of the night.

Her eyes fluttered like the wings of a butterfly in the wind whilst a thin river of red ran from the tip of my blade.

Her eyes became dreamy and dazed and I watched her watch her life pass by whilst I myself thought of the day I met her, my Lenore adore, to whom I whispered all this time one simple set of words, "Never, nevermore.."

A tear dropped from her left eye to slide slowly down her paling cheek, and I brushed it lovingly, tenderly away, leaving behind it a smudge of bright, bright red, wishing Death would soon come unto her aid as I listened to the nightingale's sweet serenade.

As if on cue did her breathing quickly stop, and from her heart I took my red and bloody silver shiny blade.

I closed her eyes and left the bed, staying only a moment at the door to the chamber, staring solemnly at her pallid lips, in which a rose by me was laid.
