Brenham High School is ending the school year on a high note - having reached a new milestone for blood donations.
Brenham collected 1,033 units of blood since last fall, the most collected in a school year in the group’s history. That means as many as 3,000 lives were saved this school year through the efforts of students, staff and the community.
The 2008-2009 school year marked the 30th anniversary of Brenham High School’s blood drive program. Chairpersons Joe Antkowiak and Mark Thiel worked with students, who made every effort to make each blood drive this year a big event.
The school’s September blood drive was held right before Hurricane Ike and helped supply hospitals at an important time, as blood collection halted across the region only days later. In November, the students held one of the biggest blood drives ever in The Blood Center’s history.
Even though the school year is just about over, the need for blood donations continues. Students in Brenham can continue to save lives by donating at any of these upcoming drives:
