Who Gives Kudos:

Thursday, October 08, 2009

Hey how is everyone?

So what’s new at Clinker Central?  Well Tomoko has been working through the night for the last few days updating our website.  One of our friends wanted to hear some of our cover versions, so we’ve created a player that plays every cover we’ve recorded.  That’s 13 in all (an albums worth).  Covers of
Syd Barrett & Pink Floyd, Health, The Verve, Boo Radleys, Banjo or Freakout, Take That, Spectrum, Velvet Underground, Tom Waits, Daniel Johnston and Crystal Castles.  All done with loving care, but essentually just for fun.

Actually, we recently discovered that Esquire magazine has put our cover of Tom Waits “I’ll Shoot the Moon” among their top cover versions of all time!!!  That was a nice surprise.  We made that one as deliberately cheesey as possible, haha.  It features on our “Hairy Cornflake” EP.

A special prize if you can spot my burp during Sean and I’s drunken LIVE take of The Verves “On Your Own”.

Also on the player is a folder featuring a selection of remixes we’ve done (either as Clinker, Opera Dog or DTT).  It features a brand new remix of Parasites “This Song Asks a Question” (finished last week), as well as 2 Girobabies remixes, 2 Digitalism remixes, General Publique, The Spartans, Toy Horses and Macaroni.

Anyway, both the cover versions and the remixes can be heard from…

Tomoko has been working on something else for the website.  I thought it was up and running, but I can’t seem to find it.  It’s a piece of interactive fun, where you can make your own jam.  I can’t say much more than that at the moment because I haven’t seen it, but she looked pretty excited about it.  I’ll let you know more in next weeks blog and hopefully it will be up and ready for you to have a play with it.

We’re still waiting in sweaty anticipation for Ambrose Yalleys video for “So We Say”.  He’s busy working on it and it’s promised for Friday week.  I can’t wait to see it.  When we were filming in Kent, it seemed so perfect for the song.

I’ve just finished recording a brand new Clinker tune called “Clocking Out”, well I’ve finished most of it.  Marcus has offered to put real drums on it.  A couple of people I’ve sent it to for opinions said they had it on repeat, so early feedback seems to point at it being a bit special.  It’s gonna sound great live I think!  It’s a big slab of garage rock.

Next gig is on 29th October at The Legion, Shoreditch and I have to say when I checked out all the other bands playing on the night I was like “YES!”  It sounds like the perfect line-up for us.  Maria Slovakova we played with last week at Tommy Flynns and she IS brilliant.  The other bands are Honrada, Sunlight Service Group and Telesterion.  Check them out and you’ll see why I’m blown away.  Can’t wait for that.

Ichiko has been in hospital having an operation and missed our gig last week.  Hopefully she’ll be back playing with us at The Legion gig.

Talking of the gig last week, it was a great night of drunken fun (drunk after we played of course) and No Cars were brilliant.  They’re playing at The John Peel Day on Saturday (Bloomsbury Bowling Lanes).  I seriously recommend you check them out and shitloads of other great bands that are on all in Peels memory (with proceeds going to charidy mate).

Don’t forget, if you haven’t got it already, our new album “Thru’ the Fly Machine” is available for FREE from our website (see address above).  We’re up to 1300 downloads now and had 3 great reviews!

That’s all for now.

Marcus is doing drums for "Clocking Out" tonight.  I might get Antonio to lay down some sax, then I might up it.
