This week we are playing two gigs. One in London at The Legion, 348 Old Street and one in Hull at The Lamp.

The Legion gig on Thursday October 29th is one with a brilliant line-up IMHO. A variety of sounds, but a line up that goes together really well I feel. More than any gig we’ve played to date.

I’ll take you through the other bands in the order that they’re playing…

(8.20pm) TELESTERION A mixture of Spacemen 3/Loop, drone and stoner rock, with a hint of Krautrock (probably due to some random electronics thrown in for good measure). “Heavy Relic” is my fave of the 2 up on there myspace. Nout wrong with the other track though.

(9.00pm) SUNLIGHT SERVICE GROUP Coming on like a garage psychedelic group that wouldn’t be out of place on a Nuggets compilation. Like a really stoned Jefferson Airplane. In other words grrrreat! If only drugs were legal and you could smoke indoors, the air I’m sure would be filled with ganja smoke. I’m probably looking forward to their set more than any other on the bill. So many top tracks on their myspazz it’s hard to pick a fave (maybe “Say I’m Sane”).

(9.40pm) We’re on then

(10.20pm) HONRADA The’yre definitely in the shoegaze mould. Lotsa reverb and almost whispered barely audible vocals. Makes you feel like you’re floating in space, ladies and gentlemen…ooh talking of which…no no later. I reckon they could take your head off in a live environment and seriously mess with your head. “Silent Connect” is just a beautiful track! We’re also playing with them at Goo Nite in a few weeks.

(11.00pm) Maria Slovakova Maria amazed us when she played with us a month ago at Tommy Flynns. Reciting her tales backed by just Cello and drums. You clearly will never have heard anything like it. Well worth a late night to watch her set, though I fear we may have to leave before to make sure we get up early enough to catch our 8am Megabus to Hull the next day.

Yep, we’re off to Hull to play with our good friends The Notebook on Friday 30th October at The Lamp. We’ve been trying to set up a gig together for quite some time now and at last it’s happening. The night is a Halloween Eve gig.

I saw The Notebook last Friday and they put on a brilliant performance, aided by a brilliant venue (Buffalo Bar) and soundguy. Everything was spot on! They’re somewhere in between Pulp, Aztec Camera, Elliot Smith and maybe Flaming Lips. Their track “Russian Roulette” is just brilliant. I’m listening to it now as I write. So if you’re in the area or up for the trip, come along. A good time is guarranteed for all!

I’ve been to a lot of gigs over the last week or so. The true highlight though has to be watching Spiritualized play “Ladies and Gentlemen We Are Floating in Space” in it’s entirety at The Royal Festival Hall. Complete with 12 backing singers, 6 brass and 8 strings, it was unbelievable. Highlights included probably the best version of “Electricity” I’ve ever heard, the title track (complete with the Can’t Help Falling in Love bit that was just beautiful) and “Broken Heart”. The acoustics of the venue is amazing. My only gripe would be, the guitars could’ve been a bit louder. Mr Spaceman looked pretty pleased with himself at the end and so he should be.

Last shout out is for our old mates The Girobabies. Earlier in the month, a new video was posted of their brilliant track “Time Machine”. Great song and great video. Please check it out and show them some love!

That’s all for today. Hope I’ve managed to convince you to come on down to The Legion Thursday. Seeya there…or in Hull the following day.
