Current mood: melancholy
I was very sadden today to hear about the death of actor Patrick Swayze. Of course I knew he was suffering from pancreatic cancer, but thought that he had won the battle over that.
He was the type of actor who didn't want to get into the trap of fame and easy blockbuster movies. He chose roles that would push his boundaries and meant something to him. He would sacrifice life in the limelight for the role of a lifetime, and not so many actors would do that nowadays.
For me and for many others, he will always be remembered as the heartthrob (and yet good guy) Johnny in Dirty Dancing, a role and a movie that inspired a lot of young kids to take up dancing, something they probably never thought they would do.
His death reminded me that, albeit the plastic surgery, people in Hollywood do age and get sick; and that immortality and invincibility only happen in the movies.
She's like the wind - Patrick Swayze (1986 - RCA)
