Extra! Extra! Read all about it! The
Chicago Defender won several NNPA Merit awards at the National
Newspaper Publishers Association, including the 2009 John B. Russwurm
Award for Best Newspaper in the Country.
Congratulations
to our staff for a job well done: 1st place in Best Use of Photographs
for our Election Night coverage (courtesy of Worsom Robinson and
freelance photographer Newton Browley), 1st place in Best Editorial
Cartoon award, 3rd place in Best Layout and Design, and 3rd place in
the John H. Sengstacke General Excellence Award. CD reporter Wendell
Hutson won a runner-up award in the Aid/Emergency Relief category and
Rhonda Gillespie won 1st place in the Heritage award category for the
2009 Millercoors A. Philip Randolph Messenger Awards.
