What a tough contest... plus we have been biting our tongues all the way through cause we didn't want to give anyone an unfair advantage.
We were literally blown away by the creativity of the remixers who came from all over the world: India, Singapore, Japan, UK, Europe, South America all over the US and Canada as well as the guys from Surrey who had previously won with K-os's Indaba contest. There were reggae versions, ska versions, one guy messed with our vocals until we sounded like a boy band. Another guy made our vocals sound like death metal. It was crazy. So many people took our dancy pop track and made it their own, piano ballad, epic film sequence, up-tempo, down-tempo, house, dance, trance, breakbeat, you name it - they did it. By far one of the most interesting remixes was the Klezmer remix done by David Minnick from Detroit. He stayed on the leader board for most of the contest not only because it was different, but because he made it work. Who knew?
Now because of the unique nature of the contest - we gave remixers a creative commons license to share/promote/sell their version of the track - we started noticing the creativity coming out in the form of videos as well. YouTube has tonnes of versions of videos of Shine 4U from the different remixers, but we really took notice of a couple really cool vids. Including Emma from the UK who did a super cute anime vid (for the original track) and this one by DJ Lon E who gave us dancing heads, which totally cracked us up.
We had loads of fun talking to some of the remixers and reading the message board about wanting Carm's aviators and the acusations that Camille was actually eating a tennis ball instead of an apple... too funny.
Many of the remixers are offering their remixes for free download (google "Shine 4U") and we hope you check out the vids on youtube. Some cats missed the deadline but still posted their awesome tracks online - so we hope you search them out.
If you are one of the remixers offering your tracks for sale or for free download post the link in the comments section.
We had an awesome time and we want to continue to participate in the Indaba community.
Lots of luv,
C&C
