During the day we toured the lovely land of Lancaster (see video). During the night…well…it was weird on so many levels…but I think the most memorable evening for all of us.
The place we played at is called Circle of Hope – a church of mostly 20 and 30 somethings (I assume). Unfortunately none of them knew about our show b/c when all was said and done, we made about $4 that night. A real crappy arrangement that made for good laughs and conversation. Thankfully $4 is easily divided among 4 people J and my dollar is now tacked on my bedroom wall. It was however good to see familiar faces at this show and play to closely listening ears.
The following 3 hours are a still a whirlwind. We followed good friend, Kurt Ro, to a bar called Tattooed Moms (see video). I personally think that’s a stupid name and that whoever thought it up was trying way too hard. We didn’t stick around too long…but then headed to Subs on South Street…and each had the best philly cheese steak ever! On the way home, many things happened…including speeding through a red light and meeting a black cop who might have been bribed out of giving us a ticket if I would have only given her my CD before she took Hiram’s drivers license. *sigh* My hand slipped her a copy of “Good Morning”from the back seat…
Cop: What’s this?
Hiram: This is my friend Joy’s CD
Cop: Oh, what kind of music do you play?
Joy: Hi. It’s kinda a mix of pop, soul, and some jazz
Cop: You shoulda given me a copy before I wrote that ticket
And then in response to a comment Hiram made about the poor turnout at our show, the cop lady said
Cop: I’m sorry you had a bad turnout. It was probably just an off night. Y’know, things are tight these days. It might have just been the recession. But you can’t be speeding like that! But seriously, you shoulda given me this CD before I wrote that ticket.
Lessons learned: speed kills, cops can be bribed.
…and I hope I get asked to perform at the next Philly Police Department annual picnic. Y’never know.
Soundtrack of the day: I can’t remember but rest-assured it was good
