Who Gives Kudos:

[24 May 2007 | Thursday]

Okay, here is the deal. I'm going to a wedding with Cristin next weekend and I can't decide what to wear. My black suit is a given, but its the shirt/tie combo that's got me indecisive.

See, if you know me in real life, you know that I've got tons of colorful dress shirts and ties. I don't just have white. Indeed, I actually hardly ever wear white dress shirts. I also recently expanded my collection with some more contemporary, darker colors that I'm eager to try out. I also actually did just get a white dress shirt I really like and though I think its a touch corporate and formal for me, I like the look for the ocassion. I just can't settle on one option.

So, I spent some time this evening taking pictures in the various options. Yes, I really am just that self-involved. But I wanted to see what other people thought and its not like I can go over to each of your houses and try on a ton of outfits. So there we are.

I've uploaded 9 photos to a new album called "Dress BStu". Just go back to my profile to check it out or try clicking here. Some of the photos are better than others. I was kind of trying different things and I don't think I really got the hang of the self-portraits until I was trying on the white shirt last. I just mention to urge you to be forgiving that some of them aren't good photos and concentrate more on the outfits.

Yeah, this is all kind of lame and self-important. But its MySpace, so what else did you expect. Let me know your thoughts if you have any.

UPDATE: So, it was noted that what Cristin is wearing could be important to know and that appears to be a turquoise dress. For the sake of arguement, here's what I'd look like with a turquoise tie. I don't actually have a turquoise tie, but through the magic of Photoshop, I can pretend.

I've got to agree with my fellow raters-- #1 for sure. But I don't hate #6 either. Guess I like the green tie. And no, it's not self-important or lame. Was actually kind of fun. And it sure beats the hell out of my usual approach of standing in front of a mirror for an hour and torturing myself and anyone within earshot with doubt and indecision. What is Cristin wearing to the wedding?

Make that #7 that I don't hate either. Can't count today apparently.

It's #1 or #6 - that's what I've been able to narrow it down too.
Whichever you choose, you will look great. :)

Hmmm...I like #1 too. Andrea raises an interesting point, though, in that my dress is turquoise. I think in a wierd way it kind of works though. A marine theme?

You know, I would love a solid turquoise tie. :D I'd think that most of these options at least wouldn't clash w ith turquoise, though the darker colors might be a severe contrast.

I actually really want a turquoise tie, now. I'm leaning towards #1 myself and think it'd be quite spiffy with turquoise as well. I could probably wear the tie with my orange and gold dress shirt, too, and certainly my blacks and greys. Of course, if we match too much we'll look dance competition contestants so that's a concern. :D

Numbah 1 for sure. You say you don't have a twin... but I'm beginning to suspect you're a nonuplet, given the photo evidence above. :D

Okay.....LOL....

White shirt White tie and White shirt Silver tie make you look hot, don't get me wrong, but too much like you are PART of the Wedding party, so NOOOOOOOO!

Navy Shirt and Navy Tie - Too Regis Philban - Who wants to be a millionaire and that look is OVER!

I like one the best - BUT...you didn't have an option of White shirt with NAvy Tie. That would look good too. Stay away from the red and blue shirts. Not good with the black suit coat.

So, my vote is 100% for the White shirt and a colored Tie. BUT also find out if the wedding party is wearing Green or Blue and then don't wear that color either.

have fun at the Wedding!!!!!!!!!

Yeah, I'm assuming the same with the silver or white ties. I was talking about that with Cristin and noted that I'd probably need to have her clear it with the wedding party to make sure its not part of a color scheme. Though I guess you're right that colors could have the same issue. Man. Too much to think about.

Admitedly the red and blue would look better with a grey suit, but as I'm a poor non-profit schlub, its just the one suit for now so I have to make due. I have an old olive green suit I considered pairing with those shirts, but its just in bad condition and a little small for me now. Though I like the navy shirt/tie look. Regis had his moment 7 years ago and its time to take back monocromatics, I say.

I thought about the navy tie, but felt it was too traditional for my style. If I'm going to pair the white shirt with a black suit, I want something vibrant with the tie. I've got a couple solid orange ties I thought about, actually, but I didn't have them at home.

I think you're probably safe with lime green though in terms of wedding party colors. The dress isn't really the turquoise of your photoshopped tie. Maybe more of a teal. I dunno. Either way, I think they'll go fine together without looking too coordinated.

Checked out the dress-- gorgeous! I agree that the Photoshopped tie is not the same turquoise (or teal), but I don't think it matters. I still like the green tie, and you don't want to look like you're going to the prom, right?

I love that igigi site, too. Had never visited before but have bookmarked for future reference.

Have a great time at the wedding. Please post a pic of the two of you all gussied up if you are so inclined.

Oh, duh. I knew you showed me your dress but I got all confused when you mentioned turquoise and forgot the it was black over turquoise. To match that I'd probably need to do a black dress shirt with a turquoise tie. But for now, I can at least photoshop a darker turquoise.

You may be able to get away with a darker green tie. With the black overlay, it almost looks green in the picture...but maybe you could take the dress and Cristin tie shopping with you..just to be sure.

I dunno though..lol

Either way, they all look great..but I'm with everyone..#1 is my fav!
