The Power Of The Voice
- I'd like to think that everyone should be a role model, in whatever they might be involved.  Actually, let me re-phrase that. In my ideal world, you know you have one, too, there'd be no feeling of obligation regarding being a role model.  That is, feeling that you should watch what you say or do on record and in the public eye.  Role models, legends, heroes, and leaders probably never for a second thought, "one day, I will be become a role model."  Half the time they are doing what comes naturally.  That is role model material:  Not the fake, clean cut, suit wearing person who is forced to preach because it is good press.  I've been more impressed with people who never thought they would create a style, fad, trend, sound, or theme, even though they were, in fact, creating something very new and uncharted.  Did they know it?  Maybe, possibly, but hopefully not, though.  Because it is exactly at the moment you realize you are affecting people in a good way that you open the doors for yourself to subliminally or subconciously change.  You are now forced to concern yourself with negative effects which your words and actions can produce, manifesting themselves in some impressionable kid with a purpose and a t-shirt bearing your logo.  Just what is a role model?  A rapper?  A poet?  Screenwriter? Novelist?  Authors? Killers?  Gang Members?  Dancers? DJ's?  Actors?  Drug Dealers?  Parents?  Grandparents?

Fuck a role model...and I say this because of the plain and simple fact that all of our role models never wanted to become role models.  They wre just doing what they do naturally.  Those who embrace the role model title embrace and grasp it, so attention, and the spotlight, remains on them.  Meanwhile, that same spotlight shines just feet away from the feet, and feats, for that matter, of the real role model.  If you really want to be a role model, please remove the phrase from your vocabulary, then continue doing your thing.  If it's worth anything, the influence will shine in the generations following you.
