Hi Everyone:

Welcome to The Metal God's Montly Blog.

Let's start with simple goings on... I have returned from the U.K. to
the U.S., for a bit of a break from the Priest Nostradamus sessions.
Actually I am fine tuning lyrics; and speaking with journalists around
the world on the new Fight and Halford releases.

I flew into Phoenix recently and spent a couple days there getting
over the long flight from London, and the evil jet lag i suffer from.

Phoenix is perfect this time of year with the heat having eased off...
At night the city sparkles and inspires.

The Arizona state fair is going on right now... It's been years since I
enjoyed the event, so this past week I returned, and it was packed with
all kinds of people from every walk of life - having a good time as I
did.

Saw the games barkers, ate some great food (bbq & indian bread) and
enjoyed many rides.

While eating, on my left was a Navajo hoop ceremony, and on my right
was a raucous pie eating contest... Paid a buck to see the world's
strangest 'thing,' and enjoyed speaking with the caretakers of the
largest boa constrictor.

Next day I decided to head over to San Diego. I love the 6 hour drive
across the desert... I have made that drive more times than I can
recall, and it is a journey I look forward to.

As the city of Phoenix falls away in the rear-view mirror, and the
vast desert opens up along roads that go on forver; it seems a million
miles from my small home town... Mountains, cactus, big-blue skies
provide wonder and comfort.

I make two stops along the way... Gila Bend is a place that for now is
in something of a time warp; not the typical western town you might
expect... My second stop is in the middle of nowhere: Dateland, Ca...
Yep, one stop sign, a gas station to quench the car, and the most
incredible dateshakes you will ever experience... From there its over
and up the hills to four thousand feet which seperate the desert heat
from the cooler climates of California.

Foot down I zoom by The Golden Acorn Casino -.. this time, arriving
into beautiful San Diego... Ocean breezes and perfect beaches... I've got
just enough time to get in the Halloween mood; which will lead to
darker blogging next time!..TMG

Hi Rob,

It's great to see that you are well and were enjoying your time off. I will be moving to L.A.( actually Pasedina) in April, so maybe I might take in some of the sights as you did. I will be opening up my own gothic wharehouse, maybe one day you may even find the time to visit. I'll let you know where and when. Anyway, Happy Hallowe'en. I hope you have a good one, as I'm sure you will. I look forward to the new material and can't wait to see you live again. Have a wonderful day. Travel Safe. Lotsa Luv'. xoxoxoxoxoxoxo

Hey Rob, I’m glad you love the desert and living in Arizona, San Diego is nice big spenders there too and navy, I would imagine some of your caliber would stay on Coronado Island, but I couldn’t afford to stay at the Hotel Del Coronado, I did stay across the street a couple times though… Watch out for sharks in the water. I can’t wait for your new Judas Priest album, dam it was a great era, you guys are truly gifted, not just great players.

Wow, I've never been to America, but after your great description I just HAVE TO vizit it! Rob, your writing is marvellous - I've read a story from a book but not a blogpost. So beautiful, so laconic but still impressive and emotional, I think. Reading you is a pleasure for me, really

And of course I'm impatient to hear/see Judas and Halford/Fight releases!

Happy Halloween! Russia sends you lots of kisses

that was really great of you to share your recent experiences with us!

it's been ages since i've been to arizona and had decent indian bread - coming up on a great time of year to be down there - the weather's fabulous.

i've been longing to take a road trip to san diego, first stopping of course in various parts of arizona to spend a few days - would like to go to tombstone among so many places.

much love,

your metal head squaw

Rob, you write very well! For those who might think rockers don't have much upstairs, you and Neil Peart (of Rush) prove them totally wrong. So when can we expect a travelogue from you?

Keep these wonderful anecdotes coming, please!

That really is a beautiful piece of writing...  I can see, from the way you write, whatit is about the Arizona desert that inspired 'Desert Plains' and 'Worth Fighting For'...

I hope you'll start writing your autobiography soon - if it's filled with as much eloquent, considered language as this, then it won't just be my hero-worship that inspires me to buy it!

Looking forward to your next Blog...  And in your own words, ROCK HARD, RIDE FREE!!!

Metal love and much respect,

Steve the Metal Fiddler.

It is cool  reading your blog Rob. The Metal God walks among us... and makes a point of stopping at the same desert vistas we do.  Perhaps you could do a travel video.. Rob Halfords Arizona.

Although.... we dont half fancy you taking the trip on bad ass motorcycle.  I am disapointed by the unusual choice of transport.. but we need some clarification on which car this car was. For example, it might have been a big bad ass Dodge Truck with the sweet sounding Cummins Diesel and 6 speed transmission (pretty much the same truck often seen carrying Harleys in the back) . Or maybe one of those Chrysler 300's which according to Dr. Z .. make an already awesome mustache look more awesome.

Dateland sounds like a magical place where time has no value. I've heard about these types of cities, but thought they were rumours and nothing more.
Cities like Dateland make the desert seem even more mystical since it allows the past to embrace the present from dusty corners that even time forgot.
