Hey readers.  Did you know that 30 million Americans can't read this blog?  Americans.  This is right here in our own country.  62% of prison inmates are illiterate. Imagine getting out of the pokey and trying to get a job when you can't even read the job application.  774 million people in the world are illiterate.  Two thirds of them are women.  If a mother can't read, chances are her kids won't be readers either.

Illiteracy is linked to crime, drug use, child abuse, spousal abuse, HIV/AIDS -- and just about every other ugly thing in the world.  It's one of the FEW simple things you can address that actually makes a HUGE difference.
