Nina had her puppies today!!! And on St. Patrick’s Day, how cool is that? :P She went into labor around 10pm on Sunday and I stayed up with her till 4:30am. She wanted to be in the bedroom with Glen so I decided to go lay down with her for a while and...well...fell asleep. She ended up having the first one in our bed at around 8am. GrOsss is all I’m going to say but she’s my baby and the blankets can be washed.
Unfortunately, the first puppy didn’t make it. I broke the sack and rubbed him while Nina cleaned his face but he never moved. I worked on him for about 20-30 min. but decided to stop when she gave birth to the second. :( He was black with white on his chest and had a harelip and a small hole in his back. So, I’m thinking there were probably more things wrong.
The second puppy is white with one brown spot in the middle of his back and a brown mark on the right side of his face. :) The third puppy was born without his/her sack, which kind of freaked us out, but with a little help Nina pushed it out. This one so far is pure white.
It was kind of funny that the towels I ended up using for her were green and some of the greenish stuff from the sack ended up on the 2nd puppies white head...looked like a little shamrock...so I told Glen that should be his name. lol
It’s been 5 hours so I guess the vet was wrong and there were only 3 babies and not 4. Mommy is alert, attentive and protective and her and the babies are doing fine. :) YaY puppies!
