We've always loved the Sugababes, but with their brand new sound we
were fighting over the chance to get down and hear them do a special
live session for
95.8 Capital FM. I was lucky enough to bag the ticket and and PA Vicky Trott picked up the plus one...
This was their set list...
1 Freak
2 About a girl
3 Push the button
4 Thank you for the heart break
5 About you now
6 Get sexy
Looking
stunning as always Heidi, Amelle and Keisha gave us something special
yesterday and it's not until you hear the girls live that you realise
just how talented they are. We admit, when we first heard new single
Get Sexy we weren't too convinced, parts kind of reminded us a little
of the old Fruitella adverts (Cause I'm too sexy in this club, too sexy
in this club, so sexy it hurts) but it's a bold step for the girls and
by the looks of it the rest of their new album (out this winter) will
deliver loads of great dance floor anthems, rocketing them back up to
the golden days of Push The Button. The girls have been teaming up with
RedOne (the man behind Lady Gaga's Just Dance) and the likes of Neyo
and having heard three of their new tracks we're absolutely loving
their new sound.
Still giving girl power a major
salute, one of their new tracks "Thank you for the heart break",
celebrates a break up with the chorus "dancing off my tears" (not tits!
the girls were quick to add in our later chat- some people have
apparently been confused) and About A Girl, due to be their second
single, another fab dance floor offering that they sang three times for
us, because they weren't happy with how it was sounding. The audience
were oblivious to what the problem was (it sounded great to us) but
then these girls really know their stuff and want to get everything
perfect.
After rocking out in the studio we grabbed them for a quick chat...
What's been your strangest fan moment?
H: The weirdest ones are when you're in the toilet and they are talking about you outside the cubicle waiting for you to come out
A: And it's really silent so you're scared to go for a wee because they're listening!
K:
This guy once wrote me a really nice poem so I thought it would be a
nice gesture if I rang him personally to say thanks. I spoke to him for
all of 60 seconds but the next thing I know I get a call off management
asking "Are you in a relationship with such and such? Because he's gone
straight to the papers" He'd made a whole story up so now I'm more
careful.
And Amelle, we love your new hair cut, were you scared going short?
A:
Oh god yeah, I just never imagined in my life I'd ever cut my hair but
I got it done on my birthday and absolutely love it. It did feel weird
for a good few days, I was like "Where's my hair?"
Who are your biggest male crushes at the mo?
H: Hugh Jackman looks pretty good at the moment.
K: Paul Walker, he's beautiful isn't he? He's something else really.
A:
Jack Black and Brad Pitt. I love Meet Joe Black- I've watched that film
like crazy just to watch Brad. That Twilight guy Robert Pattinson is
meant to be the number one sexiest man in the whole world right? I
don't see it.
H: I don't know who he is!
Who'd you love to collaborate with?
All: Jay-Z!
Best advice you've ever been given?
H:
My mum always told me never to depend on anyone but yourself. It's
important to love people around you of course but also to know you'd be
alright if you had to be on your own.
K: Don't go by your heart; go by your head, because sometime your heart lies to you.
And
on those words of wisdom we left them tucking into chocolate cake and
cracking into another song in their makeshift dressing room. It's clear
these girls love their music and we reckon you will too.
