Whats good Rain? Let everyone know about your movement.
Besides
moving for North Carolina as a whole, my movement is First In Flight
Ent. That's my team. It consist of a few people I grew up with that I
want to see do they thing.
When did this rap thing get your attention enough for it to make you want a career in the field?
I've
always been a fan of rap music, hip hop in general. I knew this is what
I wanted to do before I understood what a career was. I feel like I was
born to do this. I can't pin point a specific time when I chose this as
a career.
Musically who has been some of your greatest influences?
I
had a lot of influences. Biggie, pac, nas, jayz, outkast I could keep
going but we will be here forever. Scarface, Ugk its too many to name.
I'm moved by all of them.
Lets talk about your new mixtape
that just dropped called 'American Dreamin Pt 2', what was the overall
approach to the mixtape and what can listeners expect?
The
approach was to make real music without following guidelines. I'm tired
of hearing the same format everytime I hear a record. Hook verse hook
verse hook verse hook song over. I wanted to experiment with different
stories and formats. I went with the soul beats and detailed outlook on
real street life. Some people will get it and some won't.
Don
Cannon hosted the tape for you, a good dude to run with for sure, how
did yall link up and what was the chemistry like putting the tape
together?
Cannon is my man. I knew Cannon since I first started
getting out there. He always show love. I pretty much had this cd
finished. He just hosted it after I did my thing.
You have
some dope production on there by two legends, Nottz from VA and the
homie Buckwild from NY, talk about how that went down and individually
what did each producer bring to the table to help you grow as an artist?
Buckwild
is actually a ill dude to sit down and have a conversation with. He
knows his shit. He is very enlightening and I always been a fan of
Nottz also. With American Dreamin 2 I didn't sit with any producers. I
knew how I wanted it to sound and I didn't allow anyone to give me any
input. I pretty much collected beats, sat back and created on my own
but I can say meeting them on prior occasions motivated me to just make
raw music and go with the flow.
You have done pretty much
everything one can do to get their buzz where it needs to be- The
shows, the big tapes, Major Press, BET, cosigns etc; Whats it gonna
take to get Rain to that next level?
I don't know man. Hard work.
That's all I can do is keep working hard and praying on it until
something happens. I enjoy what I do so its not hard. I think its just
going to take time.
Whats next on the agenda?
You might receive a new mixtape from me soon and you will have a compilation cd from First In Flight Ent also.
