Hey everyone,

I’m back from my 5 day trip to Curaçao and here to write about it.

The flight itself was very exhausting. We left the house for the airport at 3.30 AM, because the plane was scheduled to leave at 6.30 AM. At the airport there was nothing much to do or see, because it was the middle of the night (or should I say very early in the morning?) and most shops at the airport were closed. Luckily for me there was WIFI internet connection there, so I was able to kill some time on my PDA cellphone. I was only able to log into my hotmail account and not into my Twitter or Myspace. No matter what I did, I couldn’t log in to those sites. Later it appeared I forgot my own password. (doh!) But my hotmail one was already saved, so I didn’t have to log in.

At about 5.52 AM we boarded the plane. At that time the sun was already slowly starting to rise and by the time we were in the air the sun was fully up. After about a 90 minute flight we landed at the airport of Port-Au-Spain (Trinidad) to let a few passengers get off board and some aboard. All this took about 2 hours in total and I was already extremely bored, because you have to stay in your seat. These small planes have nothing to do for you, so you better bring your own material to entertain yourself.

The aiport in Trinidad:

Oh, funny story about before we landed in Port-Au-Spain.

Just before the purser announced that we were going to land to board some passengers I needed to use the lavatory. But as I went they were both occupied. At that time the seatbelt sign went on, so I went back to my seat. But I seriously had to pee.

I held it in and was praying for the plane to land very quickly. Those minutes it took to land, seemed like hours to me. And as soon as the plane touched the ground I was partly relieved, because now we had to drive to the gate and I had to wait for the seatbelt sign to go off. This seemed like another eternity to me. As soon as the sign went off I said to myself, “Thank God” and was probably the first person standing and rushed to use the lavatory. LOL =)

Anyways… back to the trip itself now.

So after 2 hours we left from Trinidad and had to fly another 90 minutes, before we landed in Curaçao. (This time I made sure I used the lavatory way before we had to land. Lolz)

So in total the trip took about 5 hours (with the pit stop in Trinidad). Very exhausting and boring.

The coast of Curaçao:

When we were above Curaçao I got greeted by a great view from the top. I first saw the blue water of the Caribbean Sea. (see photo)

After getting off board I noticed that the temperature was the same as in Suriname. So I had nothing to get used to. All I did was act like a tourist and make photos like crazy.

We were picked up by a colleague of my dad, who was also there on the island on vacation with his own family and he brought us to this vacation apartment complex we were all staying at.

We had stayed at this “okay” looking apartment. With one bedroom and a pull down bed in the living room, bathroom, kitchen, TV and air-conditioning. Not too bad.

But I soon got bored in the apartment, when I found out that there was nothing much to do. The TV only had 4 channels and I understood nothing. But I was too tired to care. After a shower, I went to lie to rest on the pull down bed, and ended up falling asleep.

Later when I woke we went for a walk around town, at night visited a friend (acquaintance?) of my dad. At night I was early in bed again.

Wednesday:

The second day we went to a museum called Kura Hulanda (see photos), which tells you all about the history of the slave trade which took place years ago.

After that we went to the beach for a swim. The sea water was beautiful, but damn salty. Haha, I knew it was salty, but didn’t expect that much. And just as I was talking a wave hit me in the face and I got a lot in my mouth. Haha

After the beach we went to walk around town again, but it’s so small that before you know it you’ve seen all.

Thursday:

The day after that we left early in the morning and went to a part of the island know as Westpoint. It was a very long drive to there. It was another beach and here the water wasn’t as salty as the one of the day before. Here we spent a lot of the day.

But just before we went there, we went to this place to write our names in stones and enjoy the beautiful scenery of the sea. (see photos)

Friday:

On Friday we had the best time ever. This what I all wanted to see here. The Sea Aquarium.

All those sea turtles, sharks, dolphins, sea lions, flamingoes and loads of tropical fish; it was awesome. A lot of attractions and loads to see. The dolphin show was great. And also the theatre, were we watched a video of how dolphins are born.

We also got to feed the sharks – well my dad did. I only touched it. A shark’s skin feels like rough rubber.

I also loved that boat where you go underwater and see how the tropical fish live under the sea. Gorgeous!

After that we went in town again and bought a lot of stuff. Mostly clothes, but we still bought most things on this day.

Saturday:

On Saturday we went to drive around with an uncle of mine (cousin of my dad). We of course also went around buying things and stopped at his restaurant – which was closed for renovations.

Later that night we were invited to eat soup at a friend of a friend of a friend of my dad. A very strange soup, which didn’t taste too bad, but it also wasn’t “all that” either. We stayed there until late the night.

The next and final day there (Sunday), we went for breakfast at my dad’s friend of a friend. Which was nice until we had to go home, take a shower and get dressed to go back home.

After a 2 hour flight and an hour drive home we were all back safely at home. And I couldn’t be happier. Clearly this wasn’t a vacation in The Netherlands, because I’m never happy to go back home when I’m there. Hehe

The vacation had its fun parts, but also a lot of boring ones (especially in the apartment). And there was also a lot more I wanted to do, like go to the movies, go out and do some more sightseeing.

But I’ve had enough of that island for now. I’m happy to be home and sleeping on my own bed again, instead of that hard-mattress-pull-down-bed. And since I only have a few more days left of vacation, I’m going to enjoy it while I can.
