August 27th

Today my parents are celebrating their 45th wedding anniversary!  Though their marriage hasn't been a perfect one, their commitment to one another has taught me a lot and their relationship continues to fascinate me.  Can you imagine being with the same person for 45 years!?  I know I can't at this point in my life.  My parents have somehow managed to make it work through thick and thin, and for that I applaud them.  I can't wait until their 50th.  I'm gonna throw them a big anniversary party.

A huge and happy congrats to your parents.  A long marriage is more rare than a any precious stone in the universe.  You are a lucky lady to have parents that know how to deal with life's challenges, and not run away from difficulties.  Knowing you as I do, I do see their strength in you.

Aw!  Thanks Rick!  I hope so too, but you know how cynical I am about the whole idea of marriage these days.  *Sigh*  That reminds me, I need to go buy a another gift this weekend...

Hey Jen.  Congrats to your parents.  I can't imagine spending that much time in a relationship with any one person either.  I love this quote from my dad:

Being with someone else should be twice as good as being by yourself and being by yourself should be really good.

To me those are words to live by.  I'm still working on it being "really good" by myself.  Amazingly, It's getting there.  I feel pretty good.  If I would just make time to give my apartment a good scrubbing, I think all would be right with the world.
