Last week, we bought our 5th band-mate: "the Behemoth". While our road warrior may not be the newest, fastest, most graceful model in the market, she makes up for it with a perfect blend of character and power. And she has a great badonkadonk. She fits all of our shit, plus our stupid drunk/high asses. Granted, she's like an oven, but she's our oven damnit!!
[At some point, I will put a picture of the Behmoth's sexy ass right here]
Either way, this last weekend marked her maiden voyage. We brought her back to the place of me and Danny B's roots, South Florida. For both of us, it's been a while since we played down there. I remember my early days in music, when I was rockin' out at PIS with a bunch of sweaty adolescents ready to dig something new. But this last Friday, maybe I was expecting too much, but I figured the kids in SoFla might still have that "let's go to the rock show and go nuts" mentality. I mean, the last time I played there (circa 2003) it was fucking amazing. This time, it was alright. We had a group of our friends there, which is always good, but there was a lack of energy that used to be the whole draw of South Florida. I'm not hating, I'm just saying I like it when people are more interactive with bands, not just because they are your friends. Maybe it was just this once. (And maybe it was because there was no bar at the venue.)
Either way, we got to be on the beach for July 4th, which is always a plus. Being landlocked in the Village of Gaines, you forget how awesome being on the beach with some beer is. And for some of us (I.E. the pearly, almost translucent, white people in our band), some sun was much-needed. Finish off the weekend with some Crown & Cokes and Sloppy Joes, and it was a good time had by all.
So here's to playing all types of shows, and losing all types of money; to sleeping on loveseats, captains chairs, and living room floors; to spending what little money you have on alcohol and fast food; to meeting new people and catching up with old friends. Here's to being on the road with the people you love doing the thing you love most. When it comes down to it, it's the realization of chasing our passion that makes life worth living.
Much Love,
Binh
