Black Friday ?

friday the 13th ?

I could have worked today, grinding away to the sound of ringing mobile phones and accented enquiries. But, chose against it. Physically drained, mentally exhaused. Not whinging, just recovering.

Between Monday and Thursday night, the band recorded our debut EP. 4 tracks.

We were assigned a producer, his name is Glenn Goldsmith. He has worked on various bands, with the most recent band being British India. Having never worked with a producer, my reactions may have come off brash or stubborn. I am both, anyway. But, changing structures and arrangements are a hard thing to do, when you are so in love with the current model.

The studio: Set in a beautiful, narrow, clean street in aromatic Surry Hills, the studio was everything one would list in their preferences. High tech equipment, down-to-earth staff, small pub across the street, close proximity to Darlinghurst, Kings X and Surry Hills. We wore out the carpet chasing each other around like hyperactive kids in between track takes.

The Hotel: Now, all who are interested in the Sydney indie rock scene know of the well weathered Spectrum on Oxford street, we were staying next to it. Our nights involved personality-filled Mexican restaurants selling expensive tequila shots, acoustic sing-alongs on balconies and mind altered conversations about music. Our mornings involved Kawa Big Breakfast's at an organic cafe that served the most potent green tea called 'Gunpowder Temple of Heaven'. I tried to persuade the guys to change our band name to that.

The conclusion of a colourful 4 days ended in beers, spaghetti and tapas upstairs at the elderly Cricketers Arms, with good company from Laughter, Nostalgia and Contentment.

Thank you dearly to Flashpoint Music, Myspace Australia, Street Press Australia, Glenn Goldsmith & all involved in helping us experience this experience that we all wished to experience at least once in our lives.
